- Request, issue, and monitor the return of playground and athletic equipment; check equipment for proper care; instruct participants in the safe and proper use of materials and supplies.
- Inspect equipment and apparatus; recommend replacement or repair as needed.
- Fill out and compile simple written records related to assigned programs or facility.
- Open and close recreational facilities; monitor facility use; prepare and set up facilities for recreational use.
- Interact with elementary aged youth, adolescents, and adults.
- Monitor youth in before and after school programs; encourage participation in activities.
- Assist with lesson plan preparation; help school aged children with understanding and completion of homework; participate in maintaining acceptable behavior.

- Aquatics - Recreation Aides in the Aquatics Section perform a variety of duties related to the operation and programs offered at the City's pool. This customer service driven position includes responding to customers in person, over Aquatics - the phone, and via email. Answering questions about swim lessons, aquatic program registration, and pool rentals, as well as making and transferring reservations and rentals is a primary function of this position. Additionally, managing administrative paperwork, supporting pool cashiers, and data entry for the aquatics section are major components of the job.
- Community Recreation - Recreation Aides in Community Recreation work in the Adult Sports programs as various youth programming, including, but not limited to, youth sports, youth fitness, & youth wellness, summer oasis, and the 28th & 8 Skate and Urban Art Park as well as Adult Softball. Adult Softball is the primary program offered typically, February through November, and includes men, women, and coed leagues, as well as customizable leagues that serve seniors and other groups. Staff duties include score keeping, light field preparation, and program set up and break down. Supervising and participating in youth leadership and/or monitoring of a variety of recreation activities, special events, civic engagement programs, human service programs, and/or neighborhood activities.
- Community Centers - Recreation Aides in Community Centers provide recreation programs and activities for youth, teens, adults, and seniors, including, but not limited to, after school programs, fitness, health, sports programs, programs for teens, and other events. Youth and teen recreation activities may include computers, crafts, cooking, leadership, homework help, performing arts, field trips, and special events.
- 4th R Childcare (grades K-6) is a recreation based childcare program for youth. The program is held on elementary school campuses throughout Sacramento. Staff provide front line supervision to participants while planning and implementing recreation activities that include arts, crafts, sports, music, drama, and homework assistance. • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school.
- START (grades K-5) is an expanded learning program that offers after school activities, enrichment, and homework assistance during after school hours. Staff provide front line supervision to participants and plan and implement activities that include academic enrichment, sports, visual and performing arts, science and technology, service learning, cooking, multi-cultural activities, and homework assistance. • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school.
- ASES (grades 7 & 8) after school programming is an expanded learning program that offers after school activities, enrichment, and homework assistance during after school hours. Staff provide front line supervision to participants and plan and implement activities that include academic enrichment, sports, visual and performing arts, science and technology, service learning, health and nutrition, multi-cultural activities, and homework assistance. Staff need to demonstrate basic level knowledge and skill in design and implement basic recreational programming and interact with children and adults of all age levels. • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school.
- Summer Oasis (grades 1-6) is a summer day camp program that allows students to meet new friends, enjoy action-packed games, make dynamic crafts, team skill building sports opportunities, all during the fun summer days. This supervised summer day camp encourages laughter, creativity, and recreational play. Staff provide direct supervision for a group of children in a summer day park setting. Staff are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out daily activities that fulfill the vision of the City of Sacramento for all youth. Staff need to demonstrate basic level knowledge and skill in design and implement basic recreational programming and interact with children and adults of all age levels. Candidates should have the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
