OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Financial Counselor to deliver excellent patient-centered service by supporting and facilitating financial processes related to professional healthcare services. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate billing, maximizing collections, and guiding patients through their financial responsibilities with clarity and professionalism.The Financial Counselor will work closely with both internal teams and external customers to ensure timely resolution of billing issues and a seamless financial experience for patients.ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesEnter and review charges in accordance with coding and billing guidelinesApply CPT and diagnosis coding rules to ensure accurate billingVerify insurance coverage and eligibilityObtain prior authorizations for services as requiredReview and manage patient account details, ensuring accuracy and completenessIdentify and resolve front-end edits, claim rejections, and information requestsMaximize collections through proactive account managementProvide financial counseling to patients, including explaining charges and payment optionsCollect payments and assist patients in establishing payment plans when necessaryCommunicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companiesSupport practice goals through efficient and accurate financial operationsFloat to other practices or adjust work schedule as needed to support staffing needsQualificationsMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of two (2) years of experience in business, financial services, or a physician practice setting (preferably in patient accounts or collections)Substitutions:Bachelor’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of required experienceAssociate degree or equivalent coursework may substitute for one (1) year of experiencePreferred QualificationsKnowledge of CPT and diagnosis codingExperience with EPIC or similar electronic health record (EHR) systemsPrior experience in healthcare billing, collections, or financial counselingRequired Skills & CompetenciesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectivelyComfortable discussing financial matters and collecting payments in a professional mannerAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
