The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics Group (T‑3) of the Theoretical Division seeks outstanding candidates for a graduate research assistant position in multiphase flow theory and modeling. Successful candidates will conduct research in theoretical and computational fluid‑structure interactions, compressible multiphase flows, and related model and algorithm developments. The group focuses on coupling advanced models and numerical methods for materials dynamics at all velocities and with coupled physical processes, including large solid deformation, multiphase flows, chemical reactions, phase change, heat and mass transfer, and combustion. Responsibilities Conduct theoretical and computational research in fluid‑structure interactions, compressible multiphase flows, and related model and algorithm developments. Develop and apply advanced models and numerical methods for materials dynamics, including large solid deformation, chemical reactions, phase change, heat and mass transfer, and combustion. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external partners, including academia and national labs. Publish findings in professional journals and present at conferences. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Enrollment in a Master’s or Doctoral program in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field. Minimum 3.2 out of 4.0 cumulative GPA on graduate coursework. Ability to work within a collaborative team environment. Desire to learn new things and openness to work on different projects. Desired Qualifications: Ability to independently learn the usage of scientific software packages and perform analytical calculations. Research experience in theoretical modeling and numerical computation of fluid dynamics, solid deformations, or a related field of physics.
