About the Company

Our client is a Series B consumer-electronics company building AI-native consumer devices. What started as a focused hardware effort has grown into an R&D-driven product company with the runway and creative freedom to explore what is genuinely possible in AI hardware. The team is small and hands-on — around 22 people with a real prototyping lab — and is pre-revenue, heads-down on launching its first product and building out its core team this year.

The Role

This is a zero-to-one engineering role on a four-person software team inside a small, flat, fast-moving hardware company. You'll work across the full stack with a high degree of autonomy, owning meaningful parts of the product and moving quickly from prototype to launch. As the company scales past its first launch, engineers will own within pods dedicated to different products. The environment is genuinely R&D: curiosity and a willingness to go deep on new problems matter as much as any single technical filter, and while the pace is startup-fast, it's deliberately balanced rather than a grind.

What you'll be doing

• Build across the stack as a product-minded engineer on AI-native consumer devices
• Take work from zero to one with real autonomy on a very small team
• Own meaningful surfaces of the product with minimal hierarchy
• Collaborate closely with a tight software and hardware team, from prototype to launch
• Grow into pod-level ownership as the team scales to parallel products

Requirements

• Comfortable working end-to-end across the stack as a product-focused engineer
• Roughly 2-5 years of experience, though we're flexible for the right person
• A background on a startup or small team, where you've operated without heavy process
• Real autonomy, self-direction, and a strong sense of ownership
• Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for going deep in an R&D setting
• Able to work on-site in San Francisco five days a week

Nice to Haves

• Prior startup or small-team experience, including a small team inside a larger company
• Personal projects you build outside of work
• A track record of taking products from zero to one
• Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities

• Work policy — On-site, 5 days/week
• Compensation — $180,000 – $230,000 + equity
• Visa sponsorship — Available (H-1B, OPT); relocation supported
