Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. We are searching for a full-time, non-exempt Buildings Maintenance Specialist-General Trades to perform all duties pertaining to the maintenance of Park District facilities, including commercial rooftop units, boiler systems, chillers, pool equipment, lighting, and overall general building maintenance and repair.

The full-time Buildings Maintenance Specialist-General Trades must hold a valid driver's license and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment physical with a drug screen. The starting pay rate for the full-time Buildings Maintenance Specialist-General Trades is $28.00 per hour. Requirements

Essential Duties:

Maintain facilities by performing HVAC maintenance, general construction, plumbing, electrical, painting, and all other tasks assigned by the Buildings Department Manager.

Diagnose and solve problems related to construction, maintenance and repairs.

Review construction design plans and provide feedback for materials and equipment that is consistent with the District's standards and current maintenance programs.

Accurately estimate material quantities and budget costs to complete construction projects.

Be familiar with current village construction codes as well as construction techniques.

Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance repairs throughout Park District aquatic facilities.

Assist the Buildings Department Manager with annual Capital Improvement planning.

Provide technical consultation to District staff on specific facility problems when required.

Participate in the Park District's Safety Training programs.

Be familiar with and abide by Park District policies and procedures.

Respond in-person for emergency night and weekend jobs when contacted. Required to participate in the emergency phone program.

Secondary Duties:

May be required to work special events from time to time at night and on the weekend.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Perform additional duties as assigned which may be considered essential.

All other duties as assigned by the Buildings Department Manager, Director of Parks and Planning and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old. Must possess a High School diploma or GED certificate. Technical and vocational education and training is a plus. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in one or more building or shop trades or equivalent combination of training and experience in building and facility construction maintenance.

Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Illinois Class C Driver's License within six (6) months of employment and maintain throughout employment with the District.

Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator certification, if required.

Must possess thorough knowledge in the use of carpentry hand tools and power tools. Must be able to safely operate trucks and construction related tools and equipment, ie; scissor lift, forklift etc.

Must be able to enter confined spaces using proper safety equipment.

Must possess the ability to work from drawings, blueprints and specifications. May also need to improvise and or work without plans.

Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work and in emergency situations, if needed.

Must possess effective time management skills and be able to work under the stress of deadlines and requests from other departments while maintaining the accuracy of work.

Must be able to utilize office technology including MS Office, Google Workspace, database software, internet, and other systems, as applicable.

Must possess the ability to work with little or no supervision.

Must be able to work harmoniously with Park District staff and patrons and represent the Park District in the most favorable way.

Physical and Environmental Considerations and Requirements:

Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Must be physically able to frequently ascend/descend more than a 25% grade. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Additionally, must be able to push/pull, reach, occasionally balance, bend at waist (touch the floor with fingertips), climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods of time, sit, stoop and constantly handle objects.

The Buildings Maintenance Specialist - General Trades will work indoors and outdoors. When outdoors, may be exposed to outdoor conditions including water, sun, high humidity, and excessive heat and cold.

The general indoor work area is a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. May be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting at times. May be exposed to cleaning materials.

Due to the needs of the Park District, evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed 40 hours at times. Please note that regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
