Health Information Specialist I - Hybrid

This entry-level position is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI), specifically medical record requests, in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. Associates must safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all releases of information comply with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations. Position Highlights Hybrid role in Rockford, IL Full Time: 8-4:30 Ability to work in a high-volume environment Processing medical record requests such as insurance, DDS, workers comp, subpoenas Documenting information in multiple platforms using two computer monitors Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) Preferred Skills Experience in a healthcare environment Previous production/metric‑based work experience In‑person customer service experience Benefits Comprehensive onsite or virtual training program followed by job shadowing with an assigned mentor Company equipment provided (computer, monitor, virtual phone, etc.) Full benefits: PTO, health, vision, and dental insurance; 401(k); tuition assistance Primary Responsibilities Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies and procedures Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software Adhere to code of conduct and policies Inform manager of work site difficulties and fluctuating volumes Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as required Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to protect against unauthorized disclosure Manage patient health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents and information from paper sources or electronic health records Assemble medical records in standard order, ensuring accuracy and completeness Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record Respond to requests for patient records, both internal and external, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately Answer inbound and outbound calls Assist with patient walk‑ins and administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry Meet productivity expectations as outlined at specific site Schedule pick‑ups as needed Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Ability to commute between locations as needed Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required Basic computer proficiency Comfortable using phones, fax machine, printers, and general office equipment regularly Professional verbal and written communication skills in English Detail and quality oriented with accurate and compliant information for medical records Strong data entry skills Ability to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities Organization and multitasking ability Fast‑paced environment readiness Bonus Points Experience in a healthcare environment Previous production/metric‑based work experience In‑person customer service experience Ability to build relationships with on‑site clients and customers Comfortable bringing new ideas, process improvement suggestions, and feedback to stakeholders Pay Range Estimated base pay range per hour: $16.60 – $20.27 USD Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Datavant is committed to a work environment free from job discrimination.
