Job Description:

The 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician performs industrial maintenance and preventive maintenance on production equipment in a clean, organized, and safety-focused manufacturing facility. This role is primarily mechanical with some basic electrical work and supports reliable operation of machines such as extruders, blenders, and corrugated equipment during the overnight shift (12:00 a.m. 8:30 a.m.) in Wooster, OH.

Responsibilities:

• Perform industrial maintenance and preventive maintenance activities on production equipment, with a focus on mechanical systems and components.
• Service and repair machines such as extruders, blenders, and corrugated equipment to minimize downtime and ensure efficient operation.
• Repair and maintain mechanical components including conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, gears, and related parts.
• Carry out basic electrical troubleshooting, primarily on motors and related equipment operating at 220V480V and on 3phase systems.
• Inspect, diagnose, and resolve issues involving pneumatics, hydraulics, and other mechanical systems used in production.
• Grease and lubricate machines and components according to preventive maintenance schedules.
• Assist with equipment and machine operations to better understand processes and identify root causes of mechanical and electrical issues.
• Use basic computer skills to enter maintenance data, review work orders, and document repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
• Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working around industrial machinery and electrical systems.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams during training and shift transitions to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent equipment performance.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and help sustain the overall cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and production floor.
• Utilize company-provided tools and equipment properly and report any issues or needs for repair or replacement.

Essential Skills:

• At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience with a strong mechanical focus.
• Proven experience performing mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on conveyors, gears, bearings, and pneumatic components.
• Basic electrical knowledge and hands-on experience working with 220V480V systems and 3phase motors.
• Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals, including motors, sensors, switches, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with motors and bearings in production or industrial settings.
• Basic computer skills used for work orders, documentation, and maintenance tracking (approximately 5%10% of the job).
• Ability to work independently on 3rd shift with minimal direct supervision while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues under time pressure.
• Ability to work in environments that may be hot or cold at times and perform physically active maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in plastics extrusion is a strong plus.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting on 3phase or 480V systems beyond basic level is a plus.
• Experience in injection molding or blow molding environments is beneficial.
• Welding skills are a plus for fabrication and repair work.
• Fabrication experience, including basic metal work or part modification, is an advantage.
• Prior experience as an industrial maintenance technician or service technician in a manufacturing setting is helpful.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a clean, safe, and very organized industrial manufacturing facility in Wooster, OH. The standard schedule is 3rd shift (12:00 a.m. 8:30 a.m.), with initial training on 1st shift for up to approximately 5 or more weeks depending on individual needs. The facility conditions can vary, and areas may be hot or cold at times due to production processes. The environment is industrial, with regular exposure to equipment such as extruders, blenders, corrugated machines, conveyors, motors, pumps, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and related electrical components. You will typically be the only maintenance technician on 3rd shift, so you must be comfortable working independently while still having support from procedures, training, and daytime maintenance teams. The company provides all necessary tools and pays for uniforms, contributing to a professional, consistent dress standard on the floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wooster, OH.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
