We're looking for someone who takes pride in a well-maintained building, notices when something needs attention, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and take care of it. Mechanical aptitude, general facility maintenance skills, and experience doing minor repairs or general furniture and display assembly is a big plus.What You'll DoYou'll help take care of a busy public facility that serves thousands of people in our community. Your work will include:Keeping public spaces, offices, restrooms, meeting rooms, breakrooms, floors, windows, and work areas clean and presentableVacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, sanitizing, and restocking suppliesEmptying trash and recyclingSetting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for library programs and eventsIdentifying maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repairs that need attentionPerforming minor maintenance such as changing lightbulbs, tightening fixtures, paint touch-ups, and other basic upkeepHelping to maintain safe walkways and entrancesUsing cleaning and maintenance equipment safelyResponding to spills and other unexpected cleaning needsOccasionally assisting at other Library District locations and performing other duties as directedYou Might Be a Great Fit If You…Are dependable and punctualTake pride in keeping buildings clean and well maintainedCan work independently without someone constantly looking over your shoulderHave a knack for figuring out how things workNotice the loose handle, burned-out light, dripping faucet, or other small problem before someone has to point it outHave custodial, building maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical, or similar hands-on experienceAre comfortable using basic tools and equipmentAre willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings or weekendsEnjoy being a part of great place to work that serves the communityA high school diploma or equivalent and previous custodial experience are preferred. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing background screening requirements, reference checking, and eligibility to work in the United States.Physical RequirementsThis is an active, hands-on position. Employees must be able to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull cleaning equipment, climb stairs and ladders, and frequently lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Occasionally heavier lifting may be required.
