Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (Clinical Research) - Chandler, AZ

We are looking for an NP or PA with clinical research experience who wants to spend their week inside Phase 1 trials — evaluating and managing trial patients, serving as a Sub-Investigator, and working shoulder to shoulder with a research team in gastroenterology and hepatology — on a Monday through Thursday four-day schedule.

Overview & Highlights:

• Location: Chandler, AZ — East Valley of the Phoenix metro
• Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week, Monday through Thursday. No regularly scheduled Friday shift.
• Employment Type: Full-time, exempt, direct hire
• Compensation: $130,000 – $155,000 per year, depending on experience
• Focus: Phase 1 clinical research, hepatology, and gastroenterology
• Reports To: VP of Research
• Sign-On / Relocation: Available for eligible candidates

Location & Logistics:

• Work Environment: On-site Phase 1 clinical research and specialty patient care setting
• Coverage Model or Hours: Monday through Thursday, four 10-hour shifts; no regularly scheduled Friday shift
• Reporting Structure: Reports to the VP of Research
• Travel: No routine travel required; occasional interoffice travel may be requested, with a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement provided
• On-Call: Participation in the NP/PA call rotation as applicable

About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life:

This is a specialized role for an NP or PA who already understands clinical research and wants a real seat at the table in Phase 1 work. You will see both standard-of-care and research patients, performing evaluations and consultations, reviewing pretreatment requirements, completing safety medical reviews, and managing patients through the full arc of their trial participation.

You will also serve in a Sub-Investigator capacity. That means a working command of study protocols, patient safety requirements, source documentation, and regulatory expectations — not just familiarity with them. Your judgment on eligibility, safety, and protocol adherence carries weight.

The work is genuinely collaborative. You will partner with physicians, clinical research coordinators, research recruiters, and other research staff to execute study visits, keep source documentation accurate, review informed consent records, and make sure protocols are followed the way they were written.

There is real patient ownership here as well. You will help manage patients from their first visit through study completion and closeout, contributing to emerging care for people affected by chronic hepatic and gastrointestinal disease.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform patient evaluations, consultations, and pretreatment reviews for both standard-of-care and clinical research patients.
• Serve in a Sub-Investigator capacity and support the clinical execution of Phase 1 research protocols.
• Oversee appropriate aspects of clinical trial patient care and conduct medical and safety reviews.
• Diagnose conditions and make appropriate treatment decisions within your established scope of practice.
• Educate patients on therapeutic options available through applicable hepatology clinical trials.
• Counsel patients and families and coordinate direct-care interventions with physicians.
• Serve as a primary clinical point of contact and take responsibility for managing assigned patients.
• Collaborate with clinical research coordinators, recruiters, physicians, and other research personnel to complete study visits.
• Review study documentation, clinical charting, source documentation, and informed consent records for completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of assigned protocols and communicate study requirements to the research team.
• Perform applicable in-clinic procedures, including FibroScan, when appropriately trained and qualified.
• Support assigned studies and patients from initial evaluation through study completion and closeout.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
• Current and appropriate NP or PA certification
• Active or eligible license to practice in AZ
• Nurse Practitioner candidates must maintain applicable RN and NP licensure and certification
• Physician Assistant candidates must maintain applicable NCCPA certification
• Previous clinical research experience with a strong understanding of research processes and protocols
• At least 1 year of experience practicing as an NP or PA in a clinic or hospital setting
• Ability to diagnose and manage clinically complex patients with minimal assistance
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to complete GCP and IATA training upon hire
• Ability to maintain the certifications required by the applicable department or division
• Valid documentation and authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Background:

• Previous outpatient gastroenterology and/or hepatology experience
• Previous Sub-Investigator experience
• Phase 1 clinical trial experience
• Experience caring for patients with chronic hepatic disease
• Experience performing FibroScan procedures
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills
• Leadership or mentoring experience within a clinical research environment
• Comfort with electronic medical record systems, including eCW, and with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive
• Commitment to continued professional development and additional certifications
