Custodian-Floater Job DescriptionTo maintain schools and other facilities to the extent that students and employees can work in a healthy and safe environment.Qualifications: Must possess a High School Diploma and have previous custodial experience.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Report to the Head Custodian, who is responsible for directing housekeeping services in the facility.Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.Assist with setting up facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard-surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, including buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees, for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure the building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.Follow the instructions for using chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.Attend emergencies when necessary. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.Assist with inventory control and security. Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.Support and enforce all applicable policies, including MIOSHA and others. Enforce and support policies established by the Maintenance/Custodial Director.Ability to read and follow directions. Positive interpersonal skills are needed to enhance team spirit and cooperation, as well as to operate and maintain equipment. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Maintenance/Custodial Director.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally, the employee will seek assistance when lifting or moving items weighing over 50 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
