Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.What You Will Do:This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Tewksbury, MA.As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds.Additional responsibilities include:Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses and documenting results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Hazard Tracking Logs, Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Assessment Report)Working with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including: Monitoring program technical execution, Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors), Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval, Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process, including for example: SSWGs, SSSTRP, Tech Assists, and Mission Readiness Assessments, Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards, Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program, Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and designThis position is posted as ONSITE and is based at either Raytheon's Woburn, MA location or Raytheon's Huntsville, AL location.Qualifications You Must Have:Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.Experience with Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.Experience with proposals or BOE (Basis of Estimates)Experience mentoring junior level safety engineersThe ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.Qualifications We Prefer:Overall DoD System Safety Program experience as well as experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systemsExperience with safety standards (MIL-STD-882, AMCOM 385-17, JSSSEH, AOP-52, AR 385-10, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-1425)Experience developing/coordinating all products required to obtain safety review board approvals required to field a weapon systemExperience producing System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Hazard Tracking Logs (HTLs), and Hazardous Material Management Plans and ReportsExperience conducting System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) as well as managing a safety program and providing direction to supporting safety personnelEnsure system safety processes and requirements are properly planned, executed and documented during the entire life cycle of weapon systems and oversee the execution of programmatic system safety activities.Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal DevelopmentWhat We OfferOur values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
