Medical Assistant Position

Seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education, and prevention. MD Anderson's Thoracic Center provides personalized care for every type and stage of lung cancer and other cancers in the chest region. The ideal candidate is a Medical Assistant who brings a strong work ethic, a caring approach to patient support, and a dependable, team-focused mindset. They excel in high volume workflows, maintain strong patient care standards, and hold MA certificationpreferred but not required. The primary schedule will be Monday Friday, 8am-4:30pm. Will consider recent graduates eager to build their clinical skills.

The Medical Assistant will assist with multiple clinic operational activities, while in collaboration with clinical nurse, thoracic medical oncologist, thoracic surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), residents, and other multidisciplinary team members. Must be able to follow instruction, practice independently, while establishing and maintaining positive cooperative working relationships, flexibility, interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency, organizational skills, problem solving skills, resourcefulness, and self-motivation.

Key functions include:

• Prepare clinics for the day.
• Stock and prepare exam rooms.
• Assist with pre and post-surgical patient supplies.
• Assist with procedural setup.
• Assist with patient administrative documents.
• Obtain patient vital signs.
• Perform accurate entry of patient information in medical record while providing rooming documentation support.
• Notification of abnormal parameters to the clinical nurse.
• Safely escort and transport patients in wheelchairs/stretchers.
• Clean, store, prepare, coordinate, and report any equipment in need of repair/maintenance; audit and maintain inventory of medical supplies.
• Other duties assigned.

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent and
• Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program including externship/practicum. or
• Preferred: Graduate of a U.S. Military medical services training program.

Work Experience:

• Required: 1 year Medical Assistant experience. or
• Required: No experience required with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (including externship/practicum) or U.S. Military medical training.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire and
• Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: RMA - Registered Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
