Power Plant - Operating Engineer I

Operating Engineer I position at Merck's Rahway, NJ facility responsible for operating and monitoring power plant systems including turbogenerators, steam boilers, water conditioning equipment, and auxiliary systems. Role involves shift work with testing, treatment, and chemistry adjustments across multiple plant systems.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor turbogenerators, switchgear, steam boilers, and steam turbines
- Manage water conditioning systems including reverse osmosis, deionizers, polishers, and UV/ozone systems
- Test, treat, and adjust heater, boiler, and water systems to maintain proper chemistry
- Operate site utilities distribution systems and process cooling water systems
- Communicate shift information between incoming and outgoing operators
Requirements
- New Jersey Blue Seal 3rd Class Engineer License (1-C) or higher
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous power plant operating experience
- Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts (6AM–2PM, 2PM–10PM, 10PM–6AM)
- Knowledge of boilers, piping, auxiliaries, and control instruments
- Practical understanding of cGMP and documentation requirements
Compensation: $39.72–$49.90 per hour
