Overview
TheCity of Fort Collins Recreation Department creates exceptional programs toserve an exceptional community. Our youth programs are an opportunity forchildren to learn new skills, find new passions, stay active, and connect withtheir peers and others in the community.

Creative Arts instructors will enjoy spending time with children,creating a positive and supportive learning environment, and demonstrate apassion to teach to the younger generation.

WorkSchedule
This is apart-time, fluctuating hourly position that plans for and teaches youth dance classesyear-round. Program hours vary dependingon class schedule. Evening availability required. Morning and weekendavailability is preferred.


Responsibilities
Thefollowing duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functionsof this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
-Maintain active supervision of children, ensuring safety and awareness of children's whereabouts during all class times.
-Plan and prepare progressive, age-appropriate dance lessons, monitoring participant progress to meet individual and group needs.
-Plan a yearly, end of season recital in collaboration with other members of the dance team including but not limited to choreographing recital pieces, selecting appropriate music and costumes, working with the program coordinator to solidify dates, times and locations, etc.
-Serve as a substitute for other dance teachers as needed/available.
-Utilize developmentally appropriate guidance strategies to redirect children and encourage participation and engagement.
-Conduct positive, respectful interactions with participants and their families including greetings and departures and communication of skill-based progress and/or behavior guidance/supports needed.
-Manage classroom space including set-up and clean-up of all equipment and materials.
-Manage activity supply inventory and communicating purchasing requests to the Sr. Supervisor.
-Conduct positive, respectful communication with on-site recreation center staff and relays relevant information back to the Sr.
Supervisor
-Attend recreation staff meetings and required trainings as scheduled.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Thisposition is not responsible for the direct supervision of any City employees. Experiencedinstructors may assist the RecreationCoordinator with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with theorganization's policies and applicable law which may include interviewing,hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressingcomplaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications
To performthis job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of theknowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Minimum age is 18

Education and/or Experience
-At least one (2) year of previous experience teaching dance to children ages 2-13 years required.
-At least one (1) year of previous educational or learning experience in dance required. Previous experience may include formal college or independent certification course work, previous work experience, or similar.
-Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
-CPR and First Aid Certification must be acquired within 60 days of hire.Maintains any certifications required for position in specialized areas ofinstruction.

Language Skills
Must be able to communicateeffectively with children, families, co-workers, supervisors, and the generalpublic. Must be able to effectively give developmentally appropriate, verbalguidance to children between the ages of 2-13 years.

Reasoning Ability
Must possess the ability tosolve and implement practical solutions to problems, to interpreta variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduleform, and to foresee and initiate proactive measures to ensure program quality,customer service and participant safety.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described hereare representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfullyperform the essential functions of this job.

Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand;walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk; and hear. The employee isfrequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run, stoop, crouch, and reach withhands and arms. The employee must have the ability to lift from the ground upto 40 lbs. The employee must be capable of leading children in extended periodsof exercise and movement and be able to actively participate in scheduledactivities alongside children in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed tovarious weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, hail, and heat. Theemployee may be exposed to allergy causing conditions (i.e., cottonwood, dust,animals, etc.). The employee may be exposed to a variety of childhoodillnesses. The noise level in the work environment can be at high extremes attimes.

The employee must be able towork effectively in an environment with a variety of emotional states ofchildren. The employee must possess high tolerance for the characteristicbehavior of children in indoor and outdoor recreation settings and workeffectively in high energy, chaotic, or disruptive situations. The employeeshould be flexible with the demands and interests of children.
