Position Summary Under the direction of the collaborating cardiologist and within the scope of advanced practice nursing, the Cardiology Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients across the continuum of care. The Nurse Practitioner performs advanced assessments, develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans, coordinates care with multidisciplinary teams, and provides patient and family education in accordance with established nursing and medical standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner performs advanced assessments, develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans, coordinates care with multidisciplinary teams, and provides patient and family education in accordance with established nursing and medical standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines. Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations, including history, physical examination, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and consultation services.
- Obtain and document complete and accurate patient histories and clinical assessments.
- Order, perform, and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies, including laboratory and cardiovascular testing as indicated.
- Develop, implement, and document individualized treatment plans, including medication management and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, primary care providers, referring physicians, nursing staff, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding cardiovascular disease processes, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, medications, and follow-up care.
- Provide medical management for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions in accordance with accepted standards of care.
- Document clinical findings, diagnostic results, treatment plans, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in care transitions and ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings as applicable.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and organizational privacy and security requirements.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Current Maryland licensure as a Nurse Practitioner required.
- Current Maryland licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in an appropriate specialty required.
- Current BLS certification required prior to providing direct patient care.
- DEA and CDS eligibility required.
- Prior cardiology, cardiovascular, acute care, or related clinical experience preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular disease management, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment principles.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage patients across a variety of cardiovascular conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration with the supervising cardiologist and healthcare team.
- Commitment to maintaining required competencies, hospital safety training, and immunization requirements.
- Identifies and addresses observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses through appropriate reporting channels.
- Communicates potential safety concerns related to processes, procedures, or equipment to leadership.
- Participates in departmental and organizational patient safety and quality improvement activities.
