Patent Agent - Life Sciences

Job Overview A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property team in Orange County or other California offices. The Patent Agent will support the development, protection, and strategic management of intellectual property portfolios for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. Responsibilities Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications. Draft responses to USPTO office actions. Conduct patentability, prior art, freedom-to-operate, and patent landscape analyses. Support strategic portfolio management. Collaborate with clients and inventors to develop intellectual property strategies. Coordinate with foreign counsel on international prosecution matters. Requirements Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related life sciences discipline. Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Minimum of five years of patent prosecution experience in the therapeutics space. Experience with patent portfolio management and client counseling preferred. Education Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences field. Certifications Admission to practice before the USPTO. Skills Highly analytical and detail-oriented. Strong communication and professionalism.
