History Teacher 2026-2027

PURPOSE:

Shattuck St. Mary’s (SSM), an independent college preparatory boarding/day school (grades 6-12) in Faribault, Minnesota, is seeking a full-time history instructor starting in August 2026. Ideal candidates will be able to teach Unted States History, other history electives, and Advanced Placement classes in the social sciences.

SSM offers a mix of traditional and progressive education, combining classroom and online learning to best prepare students for college and beyond. Class sizes are capped at 18 students per section and the student body is motivated to succeed.

Candidates will be comfortable instructing in an innovative educational environment, familiar with technology in the classroom, and open to blended teaching.

We are looking for a history teacher who brings learning to life through engaging activities, hands-on experiences, and inquiry-based instruction. We also value a team member who demonstrates strong leadership and enjoys collaborating with colleagues in the history department.

SSM is a boarding/day school and faculty members are expected to be involved with both co-curricular activities and standard residential life duties involved with a residential school setting. In addition, full-time teachers serve as advisors to a group of students. Shattuck-St. Mary’s teacher salaries are based on experience and range from $39,000 for beginning teachers to the mid-70s for our most experienced faculty members. In addition to cash salaries, SSM teachers are eligible to receive generous benefits including family housing and meals on campus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The candidate will have demonstrated experience instructing in a student-centered, innovative educational environment, be familiar with technology in the classroom, and be well-versed in the academic and developmental needs of middle and upper school students.
• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field; Master’s Degree or relevant coursework preferred.
• Candidates should have at least 2-4 years’ experience teaching; however, we will consider exceptional first-year teaching candidates.
