Position Summary

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician II helps ensure that food safety, sanitation, and product quality standards are consistently met across multiple production lines. This mid-level role performs routine inspections, monitoring, testing, sampling, and documentation while partnering with production, sanitation, and maintenance teams to identify issues and support corrective action. The technician also assists with training, internal audits, product holds, and continuous improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide food safety and quality support for two to three production lines.

Monitor and document HACCP critical control points and verify that required records are complete and accurate.

Conduct GMP and SSOP audits, daily quality inspections, pre-operational inspections, and end-of-shift equipment checks.

Monitor wash-water systems, including temperature, sanitizer concentration, and pH, in accordance with established procedures.

Verify metal detector performance, investigate errors, and assist with basic troubleshooting.

Calibrate and operate thermometers, pH meters, scales, ATP testing equipment, oxygen analyzers, and other quality instruments.

Perform ATP allergen swabbing during changeovers and collect microbiological samples from equipment and the production environment for laboratory analysis.

Monitor temperatures in processing and storage areas and perform routine checks of products, processes, and packaging integrity.

Evaluate raw materials and finished products for compliance with specifications, quality standards, and shelf-life requirements.

Conduct package inspections and leak checks, and isolate products that do not meet established standards.

Place products on quality hold, release approved products from hold, and communicate status updates as required.

Support ingredient receiving, shipping activities, sample collection, and related production quality tasks.

Document findings, report concerns promptly, and help establish corrective and preventive actions.

Train and support new food safety and quality team members through on-the-job coaching and buddy-program activities.

Follow all food safety, quality, sanitation, employee safety, and personal protective equipment requirements.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus at least two years of experience in a food manufacturing environment; or a bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, food science, food technology, or a related field with up to one year of food production experience.

Working knowledge of food safety practices, GMPs, sanitation standards, HACCP principles, and quality documentation.

Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions and apply sound judgment to routine production issues.

Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.

Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn digital quality and production-tracking systems.

Ability to read and write clearly in English or Spanish; bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus.

Willingness to learn new processes, complete required training, and work both independently and as part of a team.

Schedule and Work Environment

Must be available to work assigned shifts and occasional overtime or holidays based on business needs.

Ability to stand and perform physical work for eight to ten hours per day.

Ability to work for extended periods in refrigerated, hot, or wet production areas.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment at all times.

Must be able to use touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste as needed to evaluate products and conditions.

Must be able to work safely around food ingredients and allergens.
