CAD / BIM Drafter (2-5 Years)

Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking an experienced Engineering CAD/BIM Drafter with two to five years of experience to join our growing DC Metro office. This position will support a variety of engineering disciplines, including fire protection, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and civil projects, depending on project needs and workload.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and coordinating design drawings and building information models from engineer markups, sketches, specifications, and other project documentation. Responsibilities may include supporting projects from conceptual planning through construction documentation, producing accurate and coordinated models and drawings, incorporating design revisions, and assisting with multidisciplinary design coordination.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, take ownership of drawing quality, and contribute to the development of complete and accurate construction documents. The role offers exposure to a wide range of project types, including commercial, institutional, hospitality, healthcare, mixed-use, and federal facilities. Effective communication is paramount, as this position provides the opportunity to collaborate closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and BIM/CAD staff across multiple Coffman offices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities Include:

• Develop and maintain engineering drawings and BIM models using Revit and AutoCAD.
• Produce drawings, exhibits, layouts, and construction documents that support projects through all phases of design and construction.
• Incorporate engineer redlines, design changes, and review comments accurately and efficiently.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to maintain consistency and accuracy across project deliverables.
• Support drawing and model development in accordance with project requirements, client standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes.
• Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection efforts, identifying and communicating potential conflicts between disciplines.
• Assist with existing-condition documentation, field verification, and site survey record updates, as required.
• Prepare final drawing packages and project deliverables for client submissions.
• Maintain organized project files and model version control procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to translate design intent into accurate and constructible drawings.
• Participating within internal Coffman BIM/CAD committees

Requirements Include:

• Graduation from a certified CAD training program or a technical/associate degree in engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
• 2+ years of BIM/CAD drafting and modeling experience (engineering office experience required).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality deliverables
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills Include:

• Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows and industry-standard model management practices.
• Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar coordination platforms.
• Understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, civil, or fire protection systems.
• Understanding of fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and life safety drawings is a plus.
• Experience with point cloud modeling, existing-condition documentation, or scan-to-BIM workflows.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts through sketches, models, and construction documents.

Compensation and Benefits

• Approximate Base Salary: $60,000 to $90,000 based on experience. Salary will be determined based on

  qualifications

  and relevant experience.
• Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
• Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)
• 401k with maximum of 5% Matching for 9% Employee Contribution
