Job Details Job Location: NSC-Camp Walter Johnson - Denton, NC 27239 Salary Range: $375.00 - $375.00 Commission Job Category: Camp Responsibilities Ministerial Responsibilities Perform ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with a camper, or leading Christian songs, etc. Participate in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer. Lead devotional activities with campers. Support the seeker’s ministry and pray with campers as needed; accompany campers who come to the altar during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session. Demonstrate Christ-like care and be responsible for praying with campers, encouraging them spiritually, and guiding them in their Christian walk. Ensure that words, actions, and behavior align with the doctrines and theology of The Salvation Army. Supervision Responsibilities Supervise and organize an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time, in accordance with camp rules and regulations. Promote and encourage campers" participation to ensure a pleasant camp experience. Supervise cabin clean‑up and work details. Coordinate and lead youth through their daily schedule, ensuring punctuality and responsibility. Cabin Management Responsibilities Live with a group of campers and help each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life. Accompany campers back to the cabin and prepare for bedtime. Ensure no camper or campers are left alone in the cabin without proper staff supervision. Be in the room with the campers for 30-45 minutes after lights are out to ensure campers have settled for the night. Keep the door to your room open at night to maintain order. Ensure that all beds in the cabin are at least 30 inches apart; provide adequate space and an emergency exit. Stay in the cabin with your kids at night; leave only if another staff member of age who does not have camper responsibility is available to cover. At the end of each camp session, wipe down all mattresses, sinks, showers, toilets, and mop floors with bleach water to control germs. Keep personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Safety Responsibilities Provide constant care for campers" needs in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner. Interpret and maintain camper compliance with camp rules and the camp safety and health regulations. Ensure accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities, reporting all accidents promptly. Exhibit control of the campers and display proper discipline techniques when needed. Maintain an incident report book for each camper in each camp session. Turn in the incident report book to your Head Counselor at the conclusion of each camp session and retrieve a new one at the beginning of each camp session; notify the Head Counselor immediately of any serious situation. Inspect the fire extinguisher and report to the Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed. Ensure cleaning solutions are locked up except during use and are used only under your supervision. Program Responsibilities Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team, delivering and supervising evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all‑camp activities and functions. Assist with program activities and other assigned activities, working closely with program staff. Be prepared with rainy‑day activities as needed. Move with campers to all classes and activities and remain with them unless otherwise noted. May be asked to teach a class based on personal experience or expertise, or to assist with teaching a class. Determine appropriate supplies and materials for activities; ensure campers" safety when using them. Maintain camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintain accountability for any laundry, money, and supplies necessary for camp programs. Prepare and maintain up‑to‑date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). Assist in leading campers during waterfront, nature, outdoor, arts & crafts, or other activities. Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director. May assist in cleaning the cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc., in accordance with established sanitary standards. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensure campers receive nutritional and tasty food, provide a positive, relaxed atmosphere during mealtimes, and encourage conversation. Qualifications Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and CPR, and the ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff. Knowledge of effective skills and practices to lead Christian programs for children and youth. Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture, and protocol. Ability to embrace, support, and promote The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry. Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner. Ability to plan, organize, and promote Christian programs for children and youth. Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise children and youth programs and activities. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff. Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood and youth programs and activities. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior‑management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Education and Experience Six months of experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church is preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
