Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (H)

We are seeking a Full‑time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Department of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology at the University of Miami in Miami‑Dade County. This role provides nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse and ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients. The incumbent participates in planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, and collaborates with nursing and medical staff and other hospital departments. Core Responsibilities Collect patient assessment data, notify appropriate RN of actual or potential problems and needs on an ongoing basis. Record patient information concisely, accurately and completely. Administer medications and perform treatments and procedures for all patients as assigned. Assist with preparation of patient materials or correspondence that RNs, ARNPs or MDs utilize to communicate with organizations within or outside the University. Assist in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families. Share responsibility for the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care plans. Participate in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information and ideas with team members. Perform more complex nursing activities as competence increases. Communicate frequently with team leader regarding patients’ physical and mental conditions. Adhere to University and unit-level policies, procedures and safeguard University assets. Department Specific Functions Responsible for patient triage, calling pharmacy and/or electronically filling prescription refills. Obtain lab results, medical records. Relate effectively with other staff for continuity of care. Prior Authorization for medication and infusion treatments. Participate in all phases of education and maintenance of records. Maintain credentials, license and BLS. Schedule, reschedule and confirm infusion appointments. Assist attendings with completion of school notes, letters of medical necessity, FMLA forms and other documents necessary for continuation of care. Assist with phone calls; communicate with patients’ parents regarding results of labs and studies. Share responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans and nursing care. Core Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid State of Florida LPN license. BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Strong attention to detail and ability to complete assignments accurately. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
