Senior Packaging Specialist - Sustainability and Compliance (Remote)

Position Summary The Senior Packaging Specialist – Sustainability and Compliance is responsible for defining, documenting and implementing sustainable packaging solutions to meet internal and external requirements. The scope includes supporting packaging sustainability data reporting (EPR, PPWR), collaborating with cross‑functional partners on sustainability gaps and opportunities, developing a packaging project pipeline, and implementing innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. The role also provides technical support and guidance to operators, supervisors and other functions in packaging‑related projects, requiring a high degree of responsibility, decision‑making ability, leadership and self‑sufficiency. Location This position may be remote or hybrid based on the selected candidate’s geographic location. Preference will be given to applicants who live within a commutable distance of Bohemia, New York. Key Responsibilities Act as a packaging subject‑matter expert to support sustainable packaging initiatives that result in packaging renovations, new product introductions, increased productivity, higher quality and improved costs. Collaborate and provide packaging sustainability data for local and global reporting (EPR, PPWR, etc). Deliver results by working in a collaborative, cross‑functions environment with Regulatory, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality/R&D and Sales/Marketing to manage the Material Qualification process. Provide front‑line support to factories and ensure knowledge transfer related to packaging mastery to eliminate the root cause of assistance requests. May be assigned as project manager on specific projects as needed. Experience and Education Requirements BS or MS degree in Food Science, Material Science, Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 7+ years of relevant packaging industry experience in the food and beverage industry. Strong understanding of packaging sustainability requirements locally and globally. Clear understanding of packaging design, materials, equipment and systems. Working knowledge of project life cycle deliverables, contract and schedule. Understanding of industry standards of Regulatory Compliance and Food Safety. Skills Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence others and drive alignment among team functions. Ability to convey complex and/or detailed information to a wide range of individuals/audiences with different knowledge levels. Strong administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully to formulate action plans and follow them through to completion. Demonstrated project management experience as project leader and cross‑functional team participant, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work in a fast‑paced and high‑performing environment. The approximate pay range for this position is $110,000.00 to $125,000.00. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
