COLLEGE AFFORDABILITY ADVISOR

POSITION SUMMARY

uAspire College Affordability Advisors work directly with young people to guide them to affordable college paths. They support students who are low‑income and/or first‑generation and provide text‑message advising and in‑person advising in high schools. All advisors receive in‑depth training on college affordability to support students in key tasks such as financial aid form completion, understanding loans, and reviewing financial aid offers. This entry‑level position focuses on training during the first year and requires a highly motivated, passionate individual who can work independently, leverage data and technology, and thrive on new challenges. Successful applicants will be excited about making a real impact on the lives of young people, be eager to learn and put knowledge into action, and be willing to commit at least one year to the role.

Assist students with on‑time completion of state, federal, and institutional financial aid forms. Maximize the texting platform to foster strong relationships and rapport with students. Collaborate with staff from partner schools and community organizations to share information and strategize about student progress. Advocate for and coach students to engage with relevant individuals, offices, and resources to support their needs. Develop creative approaches to drive student engagement with program text messages. Identify and maximize opportunities to engage students via other tech and communication means. Organize financial aid events with students and families with school and community partners; expect to participate in several evening events per month (both in‑person and virtual).

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain detailed records in uAspire’s Salesforce database and texting platform to track student data and progress toward program goals. Review advisor performance data and pull pertinent Salesforce reports to inform outreach. Complete survey collection and other administrative tasks as needed.

PROGRAM SUPPORT

Contribute to regionally specific research and resource gathering to improve training and staff knowledge. Facilitate occasional college affordability presentations and student events with partners. Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships. Assist Program leadership with special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Effective communicator who can quickly process dense information and turn it into clear action steps. Relationship builder who positively engages with students, teammates, and partners. Comfort with technology, including Salesforce, Google Sheets, and other platforms used for accurate work. Learning orientation with enthusiasm for becoming an expert on college affordability. Mission‑driven with knowledge of barriers faced by low‑income, first‑generation students and track record of supporting similar populations. Postsecondary degree or equivalent professional experience; some college‑going experience required, degree optional.
