CustodialThe Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout Hoehne School District RE-3 facilities. The Custodian performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties, assists with the upkeep of school buildings and grounds, and supports the overall safety and functionality of the school environment.The Custodian works collaboratively with district administration, staff, students, and other personnel to ensure school facilities are properly maintained and ready for daily educational activities, athletic events, activities, and community use.The Custodian is responsible for:Maintaining assigned school buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other facilities in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.Performing routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, disinfecting, trash removal, and restroom maintenance.Maintaining and caring for custodial equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.Monitoring school facilities for safety, maintenance, and security concerns and reporting issues to the appropriate supervisor.Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of school grounds, including sidewalks, entrances, athletic areas, and other exterior areas as assigned.Performing minor repairs and maintenance to buildings, fixtures, furniture, and equipment within the scope of the position and applicable district procedures.Monitoring and reporting concerns related to fire alarm systems, intercom systems, security systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and other building systems.Assisting in maintaining safe and accessible entrances, walkways, classrooms, and common areas.Following all applicable district policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.Maintaining accurate records related to custodial activities, maintenance needs, work completed, and supplies as required.Properly using, storing, and handling cleaning chemicals and other custodial materials in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety requirements.Assisting with the setup, cleaning, and breakdown of facilities for school activities, athletic events, meetings, and community events as assigned.Responding appropriately to spills, accidents, emergencies, and other facility-related situations and notifying appropriate personnel when necessary.Maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating professionalism when working with students, staff, families, and community members.Communicating effectively with supervisors and other district employees regarding facility needs, repairs, safety concerns, and custodial responsibilities.Completing assigned work in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.Performing other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Principal or designee.The Custodian is expected to actively promote a safe school environment by:Identifying and reporting potential hazards.Ensuring cleaning and maintenance activities are conducted safely.Following proper procedures for the use and storage of chemicals, equipment, and tools.Maintaining clear and unobstructed emergency exits and pathways.Reporting damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or building concerns promptly.Following district emergency procedures and participating in required safety training.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks, such as climbing ladders and working in tight spaces, as necessary to perform maintenance duties. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to oversee events or respond to emergencies and snow removal. The employee may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, and other potential hazards.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
