Progressive Care RN

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit provides primary nursing care, telemetry monitoring, and patient assessment within a 15-bed unit consisting of step-down ICU and telemetry beds. The role requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care, including telemetry strip reading and fingerstick blood sugar monitoring. The nurse will utilize electronic charting and medication dispensing systems while maintaining compliance with clinical protocols. At least one year of recent acute hospital experience is required, with Progressive Care and telemetry experience preferred. Responsibilities:

• Provide primary nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit, including step-down ICU and telemetry beds.
• Monitor telemetry and interpret telemetry strips to assess patient cardiac status.
• Perform fingerstick blood sugar testing and other point-of-care procedures.
• Utilize electronic medical records (Meditech) and medication dispensing systems (Pyxis) for documentation and medication administration.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintain continuous cardiac monitoring and assist with use of equipment such as BIPAP.
• Float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and ER as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii by assignment start date.
• Minimum of 1 year hospital acute care experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in Progressive Care and telemetry monitoring.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Special Considerations:

• Must possess or obtain an active Hawaii RN license prior to assignment start.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Floating required to multiple acute care units including ICU and ER.
• Dress code requires wearing scrubs.

Scheduling:

• Scheduled for 36 hours per week following orientation.
• Varied shifts with staffing ratios of 1:4 in Progressive Care and 1:3 in Step-down ICU.
• No guaranteed hours beyond scheduled shifts.
