Advanced Medical Support Assistant

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant at this level in the VACC Service Line provides specialized and expert administrative care coordination and patient support. It is expected that the AMSA works independently and require infrequent or direct contact from the assigned lead and/or supervisor. The AMSA works closely with clinical personnel to ensure patients receive timely scheduled care and follow up in their local community. AMSAs at this level require specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across all disciplines and specialties through community care. The AMSA recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines and expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Other assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:

• processes incoming patient messages through secure messaging and care requests through MyHealthyVet.
• Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults
• Entering no-show information
• Monitoring the Electronic Wait List
• Setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs
• Follow up with patient care by sharing information and collaborating with interdisciplinary team
• Following up with community vendors to ensure appointment completion, results, and obtaining of medical records).
• Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility
• Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information
• Processing of all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals
• Performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage
• Routinely communicates with physicians, case managers and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills.
• Understands, independently and appropriately utilizes the administrative support packages such as CPRS, VISTA, VSE, Referral Documentation Tool (REFDOC), Health Share Referral Manager (HSRM), Provider Profile Management System (PPMS), Consult Toolbox, Consult Tracking Manager (CTM+), Scheduling Manager, Right Fax, and all other administrative packages required to perform the functions of the role in community care.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
