Overview Advancing practice provider role (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in oncology complex care. Full‑time, day shift, 12‑hour rotating schedule, based in the United States. Primary patient population includes oncology, hematology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology patients actively receiving treatment in the infusion area. The provider will manage a panel of approximately six patients per day, offering same‑day urgent outpatient evaluations, clinical coverage in the infusion area, and participation in whole‑building emergency response efforts. This position is part of Stanford Health Care’s outpatient program aimed at reducing emergency department visits and improving patient outcomes. Responsibilities Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic complaints, and health maintenance concerns related to the specialty. Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical examinations of new and returning patients. Order and perform diagnostic studies as indicated; request laboratory tests, screening procedures, and therapeutic procedures. Administer medications according to the formulary protocol or in accordance with supervising physician approval; transmitt prescription orders as required. Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, blood products, and therapeutic procedures. Order allied health services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations, and nursing services. Perform designated procedures after demonstrating competency (bone marrow biopsy, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, drain management, wound care, COTRAK NG tube insertion, etc.) and obtain informed consent. Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges, completing all appropriate documentation. Assist supervising physician in the operating room; act as first or second assistant under supervision and perform procedures in the physician’s presence. Recognize emergent situations and initiate life‑saving procedures when necessary. Coordinate and facilitate inpatient and outpatient care, collaborating with other providers and community resources. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Provide patient teaching and counseling. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. State licensure as a Physician Assistant, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration. At least one year of independent experience managing oncology patients in Hematology/Oncology. Proficiency and understanding of cancer diagnoses and their treatment options. Completion of APSHO Cancer Therapy Prescribing Course. Proficient use of EPIC Electronic Health Record system. Prior procedural proficiency (e.g., bone marrow biopsy, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, drain management, wound care, COTRAK NG tube insertion). Ability to manage a panel of six patients per day. Compensation Base pay scale generally starts at $89.01 – $117.94 per hour, determined by a combination of internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. This scale is not a guaranteed wage.
