Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) paraprofessional in a vibrant educational setting near New Rochelle, NY. This contract opportunity is perfect for compassionate professionals who are fluent in ASL and dedicated to fostering success for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. You will play a critical role by providing one-on-one assistance, helping to bridge communication gaps, and facilitating classroom engagement.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience as a paraprofessional or teacher, especially in a school environment
- Experience working with students who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have special needs
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school staff
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Patience, adaptability, and a nurturing approach
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 ASL support to a student during the school day
- Translate classroom instruction and support active participation through ASL
- Assist with academic, social, and behavioral needs as outlined in the student’s individual plan
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment by working closely with teaching staff and support teams
- Encourage student independence and self-advocacy skills
- Monitor and report progress, challenges, and successes to relevant school professionals
