Job Title: Production Operator I

Job Description

This role works as part of a collaborative team to produce high-quality electronic equipment in a dynamic, state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. The Production Operator I flexes easily between tasks and strives to become proficient in all activities within their assigned functional area, including assembly, SMT support, and material movement.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble electronic equipment by following detailed written work instructions.

• Work in one or more areas, including assembly, SMT support, and material movement, and flex between work areas daily based on production needs.

• Perform assembly work while mostly seated, using small hand tools to build finished electronic products.

• Support SMT operations by pushing carts with reels of PCB components to machines, involving frequent standing, walking, and pushing.

• Handle material movement by gathering parts from the stockroom or warehouse and delivering them to the production floor, involving frequent standing, counting, and walking.

• Deliver materials to point of consumption in response to Kanban signals, ensuring timely and accurate replenishment.

• Accurately perform inventory transactions and maintain correct records of materials and components.

• Actively participate in Tier 1 daily management system (DMS) meetings to support communication and continuous improvement.

• Contribute ideas and support efforts for continuous improvement projects within the production area.

• Keep the work area well organized, clean, and compliant with safety and quality standards.

• Use computers and basic software tools to read instructions, record data, and support production processes.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor to support overall production goals.

Essential Skills

• 0–1 years of related work experience in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Manufacturing experience preferred, particularly in electronics or small parts production.

• Familiarity and comfort working with small parts and detailed components.

• Ability to read and interpret instructions in English.

• Ability to use computers and familiarity with Windows-based systems.

• Capability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills, such as using small hand tools for assembly.

• Ability to stand, walk, push carts, and handle materials for extended periods as required by SMT and material movement tasks.

• Strong attention to detail to ensure quality and accuracy in assembly and inventory transactions.

• Willingness to flex between different work areas and tasks based on production needs.

• Basic understanding of production or assembly processes in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Training in and experience with Lean manufacturing principles is preferred but not required.

• Experience with electronic assembly, including PCB-related work, soldering, wiring, or cable assembly, is beneficial.

• Exposure to or familiarity with SMT, AOI, and hand-add assembly environments is an advantage.

• Comfort working with tools and equipment commonly used in electronics production.

• Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills to support a production team environment.

• Positive work attitude, reliable attendance, and solid performance habits that support long-term growth opportunities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing facility with brand-new workstations and a highly organized layout. The production floor is arranged in a linear flow similar to a football field: raw materials enter at one end, followed by SMT and AOI machines, then the assembly and hand-add area, and finally the packaging and shipping department. This position primarily operates in the assembly and hand-add area, with work that may involve both seated and standing tasks, depending on assignment. Employees regularly interact with SMT equipment, PCB components, and material handling systems, and they use computers and Windows-based applications as part of daily work. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with clearly defined workstations and material flow. Dress and attire are typical for an electronics manufacturing setting, requiring practical, safe clothing and adherence to any site-specific safety or ESD (electrostatic discharge) guidelines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.55/hr.
