Key Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse - Med Surg

• Obtain and record initial patient assessments and establish priorities based on age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs
• Re-assess patients to identify progress and required interventions
• Develop and implement individualized care plans according to established nursing standards
• Make nursing decisions based on patient outcomes; modify care plans accordingly
• Participate in health education and discharge planning
• Implement and document patient interventions, ensuring they are timely and appropriate
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and modify as needed
• Perform various Point of Care testing procedures
• Utilize effective communication strategies and delegate tasks efficiently
• Coordinate team assignments based on patient and unit needs
• Promote a positive work environment and support team growth
• Exhibit behaviors that uphold hospital credibility and value patient rights

Requirements of the Registered Nurse - Med Surg

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing
• Current New Mexico RN license or Compact state license
• BLS Certification from AHA required
• Current knowledge and skills appropriate to patient population
• Effective communication with appropriate developmental competence
