From our modest beginnings in a 500-square-foot store in 1916, KTA Super Stores and our associates remain deeply rooted in a single, quiet philosophy: to humbly serve the community that sustains us.Core ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of a Baker's Helper is to ensure customer satisfaction by assisting the Baker with consistently preparing, baking, frying, and producing eye-appealing, quality bakery items for display showcases and special orders.Baking & Product Preparation: Accurately follow recipes (and adjust as needed) to prepare, bake, fry, and produce bakery products. Prepare and mix fillings, batters, frostings, and other ingredients required for bakery items.Department & Order Support: Make breakout lists, order bakery supplies, retrieve products/orders from walk-in chillers/freezers, receive and store freight, and assist Cake Decorators and Counter Clerks as needed.Sanitation & Facility Maintenance: Clean work tables, wash dishes and equipment, discard trash, and drain, clean, and replace oil in the fryers.Customer & Team Engagement: Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet customer needs with local hospitality. Answer incoming phone calls, take special orders, and assist customers over the phone or PA system.Working Conditions & Physical DemandsEnvironment: Continuously perform most duties indoors in an air-conditioned building that may be dusty and noisy, working in prep rooms that can become very hot from gas ovens, stoves, and fryers. Frequently work around dust from flour and powdered sugar, and in wet or extremely cold conditions when washing equipment or retrieving stock from walk-in chillers and freezers. Occasionally work outdoors in hot/humid weather to discard trash, bale boxes, or receive freight.Physical Effort: Continuously stand, handle items, and maintain corrected vision. Adapt to a faster working pace when production is behind schedule. Frequently walk, bend, crouch, reach, and lift/carry up to 100 lbs for mixing bowls, ingredients, baking pans, and bakery products. Occasionally push/pull up to 400 lbs to receive and store freight.Safety Equipment: Continuously wear a back support belt when performing all job duties.Equipment Use: Continuously use gas ovens, electric fryers, mixers, donut glazers, and proofers. Frequently use single-burner electric stoves, balance scales, donut cutters, pastry scissors, knives, spatulas, measuring tools, microwaves, pastry fillers, stock wagons, and telephones. Pay differentials are strictly based on seniority, merit, production, or bona fide occupational qualifications (BFOQs).QualificationsWhat You BringAge Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age to work in a walk-in freezer or chill box, and use a case cutter and knife.Must be at least 18 years of age to clean, maintain, or operate a stove, oven, bread slicer, or power-driven equipment.Skills & Knowledge: Basic math skills to measure ingredients, calculate quantities/prices, and provide accurate customer quotes. Ability to memorize recipes, oven temperatures, baking times, and weekly specials. Ability to multitask, follow safety guidelines on cleaning labels, and work under minimal or no supervision.Work Habits: Friendly, cheerful, patient demeanor with a strong service orientation. Creative, detail-oriented, honest, trustworthy, punctual, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.Availability: Generally available for work 7 days a week and holidays at any time, as bakers/helpers are scheduled at any time of the day or night.Note: In accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes § 378-2.4, KTA Super Stores does not ask for or rely on an applicant's salary history to determine starting pay.
