Your impact

The Electric Transmission Siting Lead will manage electric utility clients, developers, and other infrastructure clients on transmission projects throughout planning, routing, siting, permitting, and stakeholder engagement phases. 

The position will contribute to the successful development of transmission facilities, including overhead and underground lines, substations, interconnections, and related infrastructure. Responsibilities will range from supporting individual technical tasks to leading complete siting workstreams, managing project teams, and providing strategic client guidance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, environmental, regulatory, real estate, legal, and stakeholder-engagement disciplines.

Core functions of the job may include:

• Establish and execute overall transmission siting strategies, route-evaluation methodologies, schedules, and work plans.
• Lead route and site screening, alternatives analysis, feasibility evaluations, and risk assessments for major transmission corridors and substations.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams across environmental, engineering, GIS, permitting, real estate, and legal functions.
• Review and approve major technical deliverables, siting study reports, routing memoranda, presentations, and regulatory submittals.
• Oversee agency engagement strategies, public-meeting preparation, stakeholder communications, and responses to emerging risks.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, and senior client expectations for assigned workstreams.
• Mentor mid-level and junior siting staff to promote consistent application of best practices.

The Siting Lead provides strategic direction, technical leadership, senior-level client support, and quality oversight for complex electric transmission siting efforts. The position may lead complete siting scopes and may supervise Siting Professionals, Siting Analysts, consultants, and specialized technical teams.

Primary responsibilities:

• Lead complex transmission-line, substation, and infrastructure siting assignments involving high-risk or multi-jurisdictional issues.
• Serve as a senior advisor to utility clients and project leadership on routing, permitting, regulatory, property, stakeholder, and constructability considerations.
• Guide agency strategy, public engagement, and responses to critical project risks.
• Resolve complex technical, agency, and stakeholder conflicts, determining when strategic adjustments or escalations are required.
• Support proposal development, client relationship management, business development, and industry forum presentations.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, environmental science, engineering, natural resources, real estate, public policy, or a related discipline (advanced degree or professional certification preferred). 
• 8+ years of experience in electric transmission siting, utility infrastructure, environmental planning, permitting, or related work. 
• Demonstrated leadership of complex transmission or linear-infrastructure siting projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Advanced experience with GIS, transmission routing, permitting strategy, regulatory filings, budget/schedule management, and client relationship management.
• Established ability to communicate effectively with utility executives, regulatory agencies, communities, landowners, and technical specialists.
• Willingness to travel periodically for site visits, agency consultations, and public hearings.

The base salary range for this position is $61,700.00 to $96,350.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
