Student Intern (Residential Division-Nassau Haven)

The Opportunity Nassau Haven is an emergency shelter serving runaway and homeless youth. The program provides immediate safety, support services, and short‑term placement while helping youth stabilize and transition to appropriate longer‑term services. The Intern will support staff in delivering direct services to youth in a structured residential environment. This role provides hands‑on experience in counseling, case management, group facilitation, and independent living skill development while working with vulnerable youth populations. Responsibilities Provide supportive interaction and engagement with residents in a safe and structured environment Assist with individual supportive counseling under supervision Support the development and implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and goal planning Participate in and help facilitate group activities and house meetings Assist with independent living skills development and daily living support Provide referrals and resource linkage to community‑based services Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes Collaborate with residential staff to support resident needs and program goals Participate in intakes, orientation, and transition planning as needed; attend supervision, staff meetings, and required trainings Assume other tasks, projects or responsibilities as needed to ensure the effective operation of the program, which may include assisting at our Adolescent Transitional Living Program Qualifications Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field Interest in working with at‑risk youth in a residential or shelter setting Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with diverse populations Willingness to learn and apply trauma‑informed and youth‑centered approaches Schedule Based on academic requirements Evenings may be required Additional hours flexible based on program needs Opportunity aligned with academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) #J-18808-Ljbffr Family & Children's Association
