Physician (Anesthesiologist)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet VHA policy requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship – non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent; degree obtained from a VA‑approved school in the year the study was completed. Full and unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Board‑certified faculty status may be required for VA physicians involved in academic training programs. Residency programs approved by ACGME or AOA, or other residencies with a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed while in residency; PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may work on an intermittent or fee‑basis, are not independent practitioners, and have scope of practice under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: board‑certified in anesthesiology or board‑eligible. Physical requirements: must pass a pre‑employment physical, work long hours, standing, precise hand–eye coordination, carry and lift medical equipment, good vision (depth perception, color discrimination), adequate hearing, and the ability to move quickly within a clinical environment and react calmly to emergencies. Duties Support the mission of caring for our nation's Veterans at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. Partner with anesthesiologists to enhance patient safety, streamline perioperative workflows, and reduce administrative burden so you can focus on delivering exceptional Veteran‑centered care. All staff physicians assigned to the Anesthesiology Service will hold a qualifying medical degree and complete an ACGME accredited residency (or equivalent). They must meet physical standards set by the Administrator and hold an unrestricted license in a U.S. state or territory. All physicians will be board‑eligible or board‑certified in anesthesiology. Establish and maintain professional relationships within the Anesthesiology Service and with other services and facility management to improve patient care. Attend medical‑center committees as assigned by the Chief of Anesthesiology Service and, in absence, fulfill those duties. Participate in facility‑wide programs such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams and Lean Teams assigned by the Chief Medical Service. Initiate and prepare quality‑improvement proposals per facility policy, follow projects through approval, implementation, final report (including poster or presentation), and maintenance. Demonstrate commitment to high‑quality customer service, meeting performance goals identified by the Medical Center. Adhere to all information‑security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center. Complete all medical‑record documentation in CPRS within prescribed timeframes. Collaborate with patients, families, and health‑care providers to set realistic, measurable health‑education and treatment goals and to plan care along a continuum. Assist staff in the process of mutual goal setting and demonstrate skill in implementing clinical‑practice guidelines and protocols for patients with complex medical needs.
