Aircraft Dynamics Engineer | Flight Sciences

Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.The Aircraft Dynamics Engineer will conduct aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic analysis and testing for fixed wing and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The engineer will work closely with the Flight Sciences and Structures teams to feed analysis results into aircraft design loops. They will work with various system experts (such as Motors, Flight Controls, etc.) in ensuring that aircraft capability is accurately captured in dynamic analyses. The dynamics engineer will support both component and vehicle-level modal testing and associated analyses. Finally, they will collaborate with the Certification team to ensure aeroelastic analysis and design methods align with certification requirements and drive component and aircraft-level test definition.How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviationLead aircraft aeroelastic analysis in areas including flutter, whirl flutter, control reversal, and divergenceDevelop mass and stiffness representative structural FEM for to support dynamic analysisSupport development of dynamic analysis processes and results for vertical flight loadsConduct aeroservoelastic analysis on fly by wire flight controls systemsWork with system teams such as Structures and Flight Controls to develop requirements from dynamic analysis resultsLead component and vehicle-level modal test definition and execution, including structural coupling testsUse test results to drive updates to structural FEM and updated requirements for structures and flight controls systemsUse a multidisciplinary understanding of aircraft design to proactively identify areas for improvement in design and analysisMinimum QualificationsBachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or related fieldAt least 3-5 years of experience in aircraft dynamic analysis and testingExperience in the use of industry standard dynamics analysis software such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, etc.Experience with aerodynamic analysis methods of varying fidelity (panel methods, CFD, etc.)Experience with MATLAB, Python, and CAD tools (CATIA, SolidWorks, etc.)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsAbove and Beyond QualificationsExperience with dynamic analysis in vertical flight with analysis tools such as RCAS, particularly for novel aircraft configurationsExperience leading development and execution of aircraft Ground Vibration and Structural Coupling testsExperience with vibration analysis and requirements developmentExperience as a FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER)The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role.
