Guest Nurse

Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School in Washington, DC, seeks a qualified registered nurse to be an on-call Guest Nurse (substitute). The Guest Nurse will supervise nursing care for children between three months and nine years old in the Early Learning Center, pre-kindergarten to third grade classrooms, and the aftercare program. The school hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Guest Nurse requirement may be for morning, afternoon, or full day depending on the need. Hourly rate: $40.00 – $50.00 depending on education and experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

Responsible for assessing the health status of children in the identification and prevention of illnesses and for providing general healthcare. Help monitor one child with type one diabetes and administer insulin. Respect the confidentiality inherent to the health profession. Provide appropriate written/oral feedback on student(s) health issues. Maintain accurate and complete records of students and incidents as required. Keep up on health policies that apply to the school. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and families regarding student health needs. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, families, and community members and establish and maintain open and respectful lines of communication. Perform other duties assigned by the Head of School.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required and/or a graduate of an approved registered nursing program. At least one to two years in a staff nurse capacity in a school or pediatric healthcare facility is preferred. Valid and current license to practice in the District of Columbia as a registered nurse. Current CPR certification, physical health exam, and TB test. Knowledge of current principles and best practices of nursing standards of care. Knowledge of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogen standards and operational procedures. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Compatibility with the School’s values, culture, and current administration and faculty are a must.

Compliance : Adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in the Beauvoir Faculty & Staff Handbook. Flexibility : Willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and work hours, as needed. Cultural Competence : Respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds. Child Protection : Commitment to child safety and well-being. WORKING CONDITIONS (SCHEDULE, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Demands : Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Manual Dexterity : Frequent grasping, repetitive hand movements, and fine motor skills. Physical Strength : Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
