Reports to: Senior Director of Academics, Assessment and Accountability Approved by: Stephanie Hucks, Interim CHRODO Date: 7-1-2026 SUMMARY : The Director of Secondary Education provides visionary academic leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based instruction across grades 6 12. This role supports instructional excellence, curriculum development, assessment practices, and professional learning that drive student achievement and growth. The director collaborates closely with school leaders, instructional coaches, department heads, and teachers to foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and equity in teaching and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partners with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., administrators, teachers, universities) to implement and sustain instructional improvement initiatives and programs.
- Coordinates curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and revision for grades 6 12.
- Leads the district coaching program, in collaboration with the Coordinators of ELA/SS and Math.
- Oversees district management of science kit refurbishment and instructional supply allowances for schools.
- Collaborates with school-based coaches and staff to evaluate student achievement and instructional programs.
- Models, facilitates, and builds teacher capacity to utilize research-based instructional best practices, driving improved student learning.
- Develops and monitors the implementation of high-impact professional development focused on instructional best practices and research-based programs.
- Models and builds teacher capacity for implementing all SCCCR standards and associated secondary programs.
- Establishes long-term and short-term goals for continuous secondary school improvement.
- Oversees content and credit recovery programs at the secondary level.
- Analyzes formal and informal assessment data to inform next steps for programming and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborates with the Senior Director of Academics, Assessment and Accountability to ensure compliance with testing and other local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Ensures the effective implementation of new state standards when introduced by the state department of education.
- Works collaboratively with Instruction Division staff to ensure effective curriculum and instruction implementation at the secondary level.
- Works collaboratively with other coordinators to ensure the vertical and horizontal alignment of programs and initiatives.
- Convenes and leads regular meetings with school coaches to ensure alignment and effective implementation of programming, instruction, curriculum, and professional development.
- Supports secondary schools in the development and implementation of effective Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Collaborates with all district departments to support district-wide initiatives.
- Researches and champions the implementation of innovative strategies to advance academic progress and school success.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain and extend instructional competencies.
- Provides strategic support to secondary schools in schedule planning.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Master's Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction and a professional license with endorsements in Administration and Supervision is required.
- Extensive administrative, leadership, and educational experience.
