Job Description

Job Description

Job Title: Blaster
Job Description

This role focuses on preparing and blasting metal parts to ensure all coatings are removed and surfaces are ready for painting. You will work with both manual and automated blasting equipment, handle parts safely using material-handling equipment, and perform detailed inspections to maintain high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare parts prior to blasting by performing all necessary paint preparation tasks, including cleaning, masking, and taping as required.
  • Hand roll parts through a manual shot blaster, continuously turning the parts until the shot blasting process removes all paint and coatings from the surface.
  • Load parts into an automated blast chamber using forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes, ensuring safe and secure handling of all components.
  • Operate automated blasting equipment in accordance with established procedures to achieve consistent and thorough coating removal.
  • Inspect parts after blasting to verify that all coatings and paint have been fully removed and that surfaces meet preparation standards for painting.
  • Coordinate with paint preparation and paint department team members to ensure parts flow efficiently between blasting, prep, and painting stages.
  • Handle and move parts within the main manufacturing building and to the separate blasting and powder coating building as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around blasting and paint preparation equipment to support safety and efficiency.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating blasting equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with paint preparation processes, including cleaning, masking, and taping of parts.
  • Hands-on experience operating manual shot blasters to remove paint and coatings from parts.
  • Ability to work as a parts blaster, including handling and processing parts through blasting equipment.
  • Experience using forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes to load and unload parts into automated blast chambers.
  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting blasted parts to confirm complete coating removal and readiness for painting.
  • Consistent work history with stable employment and non-attendance-related reasons for leaving previous positions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a paint prep or paint department environment.
  • Familiarity with powder coating and blast chamber operations.
  • Comfort working around automated industrial equipment and material-handling systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with a small team in a specialized production area.
Why Work Here?

You will join a stable production environment where consistent work history and reliability are valued. The role offers the opportunity to develop and refine skills in blasting, paint preparation, and material handling while working closely with a small, focused team. You will gain experience with both manual and automated equipment in a climate-controlled setting, supporting long-term skill growth and career development.

Work Environment

The position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing shop. Paint department employees work primarily in the main building performing paint preparation and part handling functions, and move to a small, separate building on the same grounds when blasting or painting. This separate building houses the powder coating chamber and blast chamber. The area typically has approximately 5–10 employees working on a first-shift schedule. You will regularly work around blasting equipment, powder coating systems, forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes in an industrial production environment.
