Job Overview

We are seeking a  dependable, hardworking, and trustworthy individual for a full-time Household & Property Assistant position.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, working independently, and taking pride in keeping homes, grounds, vehicles, equipment, and other property well maintained. The position combines  property maintenance, lawn care, household assistance, general labor, basic handyman work, errands, seasonal projects, and eventually some driving responsibilities.

No two weeks will necessarily look the same. One day may involve lawn and landscaping work, another may involve cleaning and organizing a garage, helping with a maintenance project, preparing a boat for the season, putting up seasonal decorations, or completing errands and projects.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable being given a list of things that need to be accomplished and  taking ownership of getting them done.

This is intended to be a  stable, long-term position for the right person.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Property & Lawn Maintenance

• Mowing, trimming, blowing, and general lawn care
• General landscaping and grounds maintenance
• Keeping porches, patios, walkways, driveways, and outdoor areas clean
• Leaf and debris removal
• Pressure washing
• Gutter cleaning and other routine exterior maintenance
• Maintaining and organizing garages, sheds, storage areas, tools, and equipment
• Identifying maintenance issues and bringing them to our attention
• Assisting contractors and service providers when needed

General Labor & Handyman Work

This position will assist with a wide variety of projects throughout the year, including:

• Basic repairs and handyman projects
• Moving furniture, boxes, equipment, and supplies
• Assembly and installation of household items
• Cleaning and organizing storage areas
• Helping with miscellaneous home improvement and maintenance projects
• Picking up and transporting materials or supplies
• Helping set up and clean up for family gatherings or events
• Other general labor projects as needed

The ideal candidate should be comfortable using basic hand tools and outdoor power equipment. Advanced construction or mechanical experience is not required, but being mechanically inclined and willing to learn is a plus.

Household Assistance

• General household cleaning as needed
• Cleaning and organizing garages, utility areas, storage rooms, and other spaces
• Helping keep household supplies stocked and organized
• Preparing homes before guests or family arrive
• Helping clean and reset properties following visits or events
• Running household errands
• Picking up groceries, supplies, equipment, or other items as needed

Seasonal Projects

Responsibilities will change throughout the year and may include:

• Putting up Christmas and other seasonal decorations
• Taking down, organizing, and storing decorations
• Seasonal yard cleanup
• Preparing outdoor furniture and spaces for spring and summer
• Winter preparation of outdoor areas and equipment
• Other seasonal household and property projects

Lake Property & Boat Responsibilities

The position will include regular work at a second residence at Kerr Lake.

Responsibilities may include:

• General lawn and property maintenance
• Preparing the house before family visits
• Cleaning and organizing the property
• Checking the house when it has been unoccupied
• Meeting contractors or service providers
• Identifying maintenance or property issues
• Cleaning and maintaining outdoor and lake-related equipment
• Helping open and prepare the boat for boating season
• Cleaning, organizing, and helping close the boat at the end of boating season
• Assisting with other boating and lake-related projects

Transportation between properties will be part of the position when necessary.

Driving & Errands

As trust and experience develop, the position is expected to include additional driving and personal-assistance responsibilities, such as:

• Driving employer to and from work when needed
• Running errands
• Picking up supplies and materials
• Transporting items between properties
• Taking vehicles for service, inspections, fueling, washing, or maintenance

A  valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

Schedule

This is a  full-time, 40-hour-per-week position working five days per week.

Typical hours are:

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch

The normal schedule will generally be Monday through Friday. However, flexibility is important. Depending on family schedules, lake use, projects, events, weather, or other needs,  one of the five workdays may occasionally be a Saturday or Sunday, with another weekday off instead.

This is not intended to routinely be a six- or seven-day-per-week position. The expectation is five dependable workdays each week with reasonable flexibility regarding which five days are worked.

• Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Experience

Prior experience in one or more of the following would be helpful:

• Property or estate maintenance
• Landscaping or lawn care
• Facilities maintenance
• Construction
• Handyman or home repair work
• Farming or agricultural work
• Hospitality or household services
• General labor

However,  we are more interested in finding the right person than the perfect résumé.

Dependability, character, work ethic, common sense, initiative, and willingness to learn are more important than having experience in every responsibility listed above.
