Job Title

TILT Autonomy builds autonomous vehicle management systems for defense and commercial applications. We're a growing, highly technical team working on important projects. You'll have direct access to leadership and immediate visibility into the impact of your work.

The Role

You'll own TILT's day-to-day accounting operations: maintaining the books, managing vendor payments and customer invoicing, running month-end close in coordination with our external CPA, and serving as the financial backbone that lets leadership make informed decisions. This role reports directly to the COO.

Responsibilities

• Bookkeeping & Reconciliation
• Maintain books in QuickBooks Online (QBO) daily transaction categorization, account reconciliations, journal entries
• Reconcile Ramp corporate cards and expense reports to QBO; enforce receipt and memo compliance across the team
• Manage accounts payable: review vendor invoices, process payments, maintain vendor records
• Manage accounts receivable: generate customer invoices, track collections, apply payments
• Onboard new vendors collect W-9s, set up in QBO, verify ACH banking details
• Month-End Close & Reporting
• Run full month-end close with Cherry Bekaert (external CPA) reconcile all accounts, post journal entries, deliver clean trial balance
• Produce monthly financial package for COO and CEO: P&L, balance sheet, and cash position summary
• Maintain audit-ready records and support year-end close
• Light quarterly cash flow forecasting
• Payroll & Compliance
• Review and approve payroll in Gusto before each run; post payroll journal entries to QBO
• File Maryland sales and use tax returns
• Track qualifying expenses for the R&D Tax Credit (IRC 41) with proper cost coding
• Maintain DCAA-compatible recordkeeping; support indirect cost pool allocation for government contracts
• Prepare and file 1099s for qualifying vendors annually
• Operations Support
• Track purchase orders and match to vendor invoices and payments
• Invoice government customers based on contract milestones or cost-plus billing schedules
• Support COO & CEO on ad hoc financial analysis, budget vs. actual reviews, and spending decisions
• Approve timesheets for monthly close

What We're Looking For

Required: 35+ years of hands-on bookkeeping or staff accounting experience. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online. Experience with corporate expense platforms (Ramp, Concur, Expensify, or similar). Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight. Strong attention to detail. Cost allocation errors in a government contracting environment have downstream billing consequences.

Strongly Preferred: Experience in a small government contractor (GovCon) environment. DCAA timekeeping, indirect rates, cost-type contracts. Experience coordinating with an external CPA firm on monthly close. Working knowledge of FAR/DFARS billing requirements.

Nice to Have: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or in-progress certification. Experience with Gusto payroll platform.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary $65,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience. ICHRA health benefit (individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement). 401(k). 31-day PTO: 16 holidays + 15 discretionary days + 5 sick days.

Location & Schedule

Hybrid primarily remote with regular visits to our Annapolis, MD office. East Coast business hours required. Must be available for in-person meetings on reasonable notice.
