Outpatient Coding Auditor
We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Coding Auditor to join a leading hospital system in a fully remote role. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in hospital outpatient facility (HB) coding and auditing who enjoys ensuring coding accuracy, maintaining compliance, and educating coding teams. You'll audit a broad range of outpatient specialties while working with a collaborative Health Information Management (HIM) team.
What You'll Do
- Audit outpatient hospital facility coding for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Review ICD-10-CM diagnosis, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier assignment for outpatient encounters.
- Validate both principal and secondary diagnosis coding, ensuring appropriate use of combination codes and supporting documentation.
- Identify coding trends, errors, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide education and feedback to coding staff to improve coding quality and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, AHIMA, AAPC, and official coding guidelines.
- Collaborate with coding leadership and HIM teams to maintain coding accuracy and productivity.
- Document audit findings and maintain quality metrics.
