Position Summary The Medical Assistant supports physicians, advanced care practitioners, and nurses in providing patient care. Responsibilities include validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms, measuring vital signs, drawing blood, collecting lab samples, and performing administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and data entry. Job Responsibilities Escort patients to exam rooms Clean and stock exam rooms Measure and record vital signs Obtain and process blood samples as per NYULH policy Support quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR Promote a positive patient experience Communicate effectively with providers and administrative staff; elevate issues Answer phone calls Review and respond to inbasket messages Follow up on Rx refill requests Assist physician with patient intake and transcribe visit into EPIC Perform other duties as needed Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities Complete intake including vital signs and other tests within scope of practice Validate patient medical record when accessing/updating information Assist with maintaining patient flow and escorting patients and specimens Ensure rooms are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient Communicate MyChart functionality during intake Ensure translation services/equipment are available before visit Assist with blood/specimen collection and proper handling per policy Perform point‑of‑care testing (EKG, glucose, pregnancy test, urinalysis) per policy and document required competency Prep patient encounter with up‑to‑date information (bloodwork, imaging, meds, history) Review and import “Prepare for your Visit”, “Outside Information” and patient history before provider encounter Support logbooks for equipment and specimen collection per FGP standards Maintain medical records with vital signs and histories to support MIPS Maintain HIPAA patient privacy Document patient communications and refer clinical questions to RN/Provider Manage in‑basket messages and patient medical advice requests Use EPIC to update records and communicate with peers Assist physicians with procedures and set‑up as needed Stock exam/treatment rooms or supply closets; communicate needed replenishment Clean and sterilize equipment after use with competency documentation Facilitate FGP Clinical Quality Management documentation and maintenance Review downtime procedures related to patient visits Complete annual safety competency trainings (Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, MedSled, HIPAA) Partner with administrative and clinical staff for prior authorizations, refills, referrals Assist with prescription refill requests, locate prescription, coordinate with RN/LPN/Provider Accompany physician into exam room, transcribe history and examination, and document encounter List diagnoses, symptoms, follow‑up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated Document orders for labs, imaging, medications Perform other duties as assigned Patient Experience and Access Serve as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice brand ambassador, upholding mission, vision, and values Demonstrate FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, Sign‑Off) Greet patients warmly, state name and role, communicate care steps Collaborate to ensure positive, timely resolution of patient interactions in person, by phone, or electronically Proactively anticipate patient needs and engage in service recovery using the LEARN model; raise issues appropriately Share ideas for improving patient experience and access with leadership Partner with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to promote positive experience Advocate for staff proficiency in Access Agreement gold‑standard principles Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or, upon hire, a current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized institution (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA). Proficient English verbal, reading, and writing skills; other languages an asset. Demonstrated computer proficiency and ability to multitask within a team environment focused on positive patient care. Preferred Qualifications Medical Assistant experience EKG, phlebotomy, and venipuncture experience Qualified candidates must effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
