AI Automation Engineer

Salary: $249,600 - 332,800 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree required.
• At least three years of Automation Engineer experience required.
• Must have real experience building and shipping unattended agent systems: models with tools, memory, and a task loop that run on a schedule without a person in the conversation.
• Should understand how to make model-driven automation dependable in regulated processes, including deterministic validation, clear failure handling, traceability, and deliberate confidence thresholds.
• Familiarity with Python or Node, agent harnesses and orchestration, agent frameworks or tool protocols such as MCP or function calling, browser automation, SQL and analytical databases, and source control and CI is useful. Our data platform is ClickHouse; experience with SAP Business One is not required.
• Helpful additional experience includes pharmaceutical, medical, or other regulated distribution; finance operations automation; extracting data from inconsistent third-party formats; and delivering systems used daily by non-technical teams.

• Build and operate scheduled, autonomous pipelines that retrieve data, perform work, produce outputs, and deliver results without manual initiation.
• Design exception handling so routine cases complete automatically and cases needing judgment reach the appropriate person with useful context.
• Integrate our ERP, data platform, third-party tools, and web interfaces, including systems without APIs.
• Implement deterministic safeguards, input and output validation, and audit trails that trace results to their source records, logic version, and run.
• Capture user corrections to measure and improve system accuracy.
• Work directly with teams whose processes are being automated, learning their workflows before designing solutions.
• Deliver maintainable, documented, source-controlled systems that others can operate.
• Automate compliance workflows, beginning with inventory reporting and order review, followed by finance processes and reporting for sales and commercial teams.

We are BluPax Pharma, a pharmaceutical distributor based in Edison, New Jersey, building a development team to reduce manual work through dependable automation. You will report to our Chief Technology Officer and work closely with our SAP developer, compliance, and operations teams in a small group with quick decision-making. The initial work supports controlled-substance compliance processes, followed by finance and commercial reporting. We use AI extensively in our own work. This is a full-time, six-month independent contractor engagement, with a review at month four and the possibility of an extension. Compensation is $120–$160 per hour, depending on relevant experience, for approximately 40 hours per week. The role is onsite in Edison for the first few weeks, then flexible, with in-person work when useful and availability expected if an automation stops running. September through November is our busiest period, and we take care with changes because our temperature-controlled, high-value products affect patients. We are an equal opportunity employer.
