Work involves performing work in several staff services functions such as human resources, accounting, budgeting, purchasing, training, payroll, records management, and property management. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. As a Staff Services Officer I, you’re the driving force behind a welcoming every new DFPS team member. You’ll support a dedicated group of hiring specialists and their manager, but your influence goes well beyond the office—you're essential to our onboarding experience, ensuring new employees feel supported and valued from day one. In this role, you help set the tone for our mission to protect vulnerable adults, making every new employee orientation meaningful and every transition smooth. You’ll take on a variety of meaningful staff services responsibilities that keep our talent acquisition operations running smoothly. From keeping personnel records organized and up-to-date to making new employee orientation a positive experience, you’ll be right in the middle of what matters most. You’ll coordinate key HR activities, track hiring progress, prepare reports, and support both your team and new hires every step of the way. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Processes and maintains personnel documentation including new hire paperwork, employee changes, and termination records- Provides administrative support to HR staff and hiring managers by scheduling interviews, maintaining calendars, and coordinating meetings
- Prepares and distributes routine HR reports, correspondence, and other documents while ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Maintains various HR databases and tracking systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality of employee information
- Assists with new employee orientation by coordinating schedules, preparing materials, and processing required documentation
- Responds to basic HR-related inquiries from employees and managers regarding policies, procedures, and general HR matters
- Supports recruitment activities by tracking applicants, maintaining job posting records, and coordinating with hiring managers
- Reviews and verifies HR documents for completeness and compliance with established procedures and regulations
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Experience in office management, business administration, human resource administration, or budget preparation work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in human resources, public or business administration, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of agency programs, policies, and procedures; the methods, principles, and practices of the agency; fiscal or budgeting techniques and practices; and office management and human resource administration. Skill in coordinating activities, the use of a computer and applicable software, and critical thinking. Ability to study and evaluate programs and propose recommendations, and to communicate effectively. Knowledge of office practices, administrative procedures, and records management principles. Skilled in organizing and maintaining detailed records and tracking systems. Skilled in verbal and written communication, with ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive personnel information.
