PT Practical Nursing Clinical Instructors

Southwest Virginia Community College invites applications for hourly clinical instructors for the Practical Nursing Program in the Health Technologies Division. Duties and responsibilities include becoming knowledgeable of program goals clinical objectives, and clinical evaluation systems; providing students with appropriate and adequate clinical supervision and instruction; performing clinical competency evaluation for each student assigned to their supervision; proffering a positive professional attitude toward students and the teaching process; participating in continuing education to improve and maintain competence in evaluation skills; meeting regularly with program officials to communicate student progress, strengths, and weaknesses; assisting in maintaining student clinical records; maintaining confidentiality in accordance with program policy; participating in meeting and serving on committees consistent with the goals of the educational program; and may be required to travel to various clinical sites.

Minimum qualifications include holding a current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse with no disciplinary action that restricts the practice of nursing; having at a minimum two years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse; having all of the requirements to meet the required guidelines for the clinical area in which they are supervising students; having a baccalaureate degree, preferably in nursing, or an associate degree in nursing and be actively enrolled in a baccalaureate degree for nursing program; possessing a current American Heart Association BCLS card; demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with diverse stakeholders; demonstrating outstanding conflict resolution skills; demonstrating effective time management and prioritization of work; demonstrating excellence in organization and attention to detail; demonstrating effective computer skills (e.g., software, analytical, report writing); demonstrating clinical competency and compliance with professional standards of practice; being able to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines; being able to develop a professional rapport with diverse stakeholders; being able to develop and complete projects without continuous direct supervision; being able to learn from students' participation, demonstrating fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and showing compassion without being ineffectual; being able to perform responsibilities within legal and ethical boundaries; being able to lift 20 pounds when performing job responsibilities; being able to stand for extended periods of time (e.g., one hour or more) when facilitating labs or clinical; and being able to demonstrate techniques specific to the practice of nursing.
