7 Hour Educational Aide - Gurney Elementary - Specialized Student Support JobID: 650 Position Type: Support Staff / Teacher Assistant Date Posted: 1/20/2026 Full Time Aide (Specialized Student Support) - Gurney Elementary 2025-2026 School Year Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor Job Objective: Provides student services consistent with the district mission and legal requirements. NOTE: Work assignments/schedules may fluctuate to address variable staffing needs. Minimum Valid Ohio Department of Education license/permit as determined at the time of appointment. Qualifications Meets mandated state/federal criteria (i.e., approved degree, completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses, or acceptable score on an authorized professional standards test). Displays flexibility, reliability, self‑discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks. Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct. Embraces high‑performance standards (e.g., engagement, proficiency, resilience, etc.). Maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment. Note Blood‑borne pathogen/communicable disease, child abuse/neglect, CPR, first aid/injury prevention and nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training may be required. Some positions require specialized skills using communication boards, sign language, finger spelling, etc. Preferred Attributes Effective interpersonal skills. Conscientious and self‑directed. Physical Demand Level 1 Light to medium strength (frequently lifting/carrying 11 to 25 lbs.). Duties require communicating verbally, far/near visual acuity, fine/gross manipulation, reaching at or below shoulder height, standing/walking, stooping, and using a traditional keyboard. 1 Abridged listing of U.S. Department of Labor physical demand characteristics. Note Legally acceptable alternative qualifications, additional assignment‑specific skills, and other physical demands deemed appropriate by the board may be delineated at the time of appointment. Essential Functions Arrives prepared to start working on time. Follows established sign‑in/out procedures. Complies with program and/or building work hours/schedules. Receives directions from the assigned supervisor. Performs non‑teaching program support services that facilitate the timely attainment of district objectives. Learns the proper procedure for operating equipment associated with assigned duties. Consults with the assigned supervisor to receive support and address concerns. Communicates rules to students (i.e., behavioral expectations and non‑compliance consequences). Uses positive behavioral interventions and supports to maintain discipline. Keeps school personnel informed about student behavior concerns. Attends to student concerns discreetly when assistance is requested. Works with staff to identify student assistance strategies most likely to be effective. Ensures accountability of student attendance. Communicates concerns to appropriate staff. The following are representative of possible job assignments K‑12 Classroom Support: Provides support within the classroom setting at the direction of the classroom teacher/supervisor. Library/Media: Helps teachers/students use media center and technology resources effectively. Keeps books, periodicals and other materials properly shelved. Processes loans/returns. Supervises students in the library. Leads read‑aloud activities. Supervises students during library book selection. Supports learning goals as directed by the teacher for library time and literacy. Supports the work of volunteers within the library. Assists teachers in finding and using library resources to enhance classroom instruction. Cafeteria: Maintains visibility and monitors students during lunch periods. Takes appropriate action to resolve student concerns in a timely manner. Hall Monitor: Maintains a safe/orderly school environment. Prohibits loitering. Verifies individuals have permission to be in the building during class periods/public events. Health Clinic: Collects/maintains student health records (e.g., immunization status, medical histories, etc.). Processes parent consent forms, monitors security of stored medicine. Assists with health screening. Administers student medications under the supervision of the school nurse. Office: Greets/assists office visitors. Answers/directs phone calls. Types documents. Duplicates/collates materials. Sorts/distributes mail. Prepares photocopies. Organizes/stores supplies. Locates students as requested. Processes homework requests for absent students. Playground/Recess: Provides general supervision of students. Patrols recreation areas, supports opportunities for social interactions among students. Initiates action to protect students during adverse weather. Study Hall, Detention, or In‑School Restriction: Supervises student arrivals. Assigns seats. Records attendance. Checks to ensure students are working on classroom assignments. Preschool Classroom Support: Provides student assistance with daily living activities as necessary. Implements student behavior plans and assists with data collection and reporting as needed. Provides instructional support which may include discrete trial training, redirection and reinforcement of instruction, etc. Student Specific Support: Provides student assistance with daily living activities including toileting as necessary. Implements student behavior plans and assists with data collection and reporting as needed. Facilitates student involvement in the general education classroom. Provides instructional support including accommodations and modifications as directed. Transportation/Bus Monitor: Assists with passenger loading/unloading. Keeps the bus driver and school personnel informed about behavior concerns. Monitors and assists students under the guidance of the bus/van driver. Operates the ramp or wheelchair lift as needed. Ensures passengers are seated and mobility equipment is secured before the vehicle moves. Communicates rules to students (i.e., behavioral expectations and non‑compliance consequences). Provides assistance as needed when aware of passengers with medical/health considerations. Learns proper procedures to assist students during emergency bus evacuations, prepares paperwork as directed to ensure all required data is tracked and accurately recorded.
