Activity Therapist II – SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621 Overview We seek an experienced Activity Therapist II to plan, organize, and implement comprehensive Activity Therapy programs for adult patients in an acute, short‑term psychiatric hospital. The successful candidate will work under limited supervision of the Activity Therapy Director, participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams, and provide therapeutic activities that promote patient recovery and community integration. Responsibilities Conduct goal‑oriented therapy groups (15 groups per week), inspiring patient participation and tailoring activities to individual needs. Plan and prepare therapy groups, including researching new activity ideas, setting up materials, maintaining patient lists, and documenting behavior observations. Participate in treatment team meetings; prepare treatment plans; provide progress updates on patients within Activity Therapy. Complete individual Activity Therapy Service Assessments for each assigned patient and maintain accurate progress notes. Attend Activity Therapy meetings, in‑service training, workshops, and provide in‑service education on specialized areas as requested. Assist in planning, organizing, and executing special events and community activities. Record statistical data daily and submit monthly reports to the Director of Activity Therapy; participate in peer reviews and annual program evaluations. Maintain equipment used in therapy groups; submit equipment requests, repair needs, and inventory reports. Minimum and Additional Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Horticulture Therapy, or Bibliotherapy with at least three months of supervised clinical field experience; OR master’s degree in the same areas with one year of field experience. Ability to perform moderate‑level physical activities (sports, aerobics, exercise, aquatics) and lift up to 50 pounds, push a wheelchair, stand, walk for long periods, and perform bending and stooping tasks. Knowledge of behavior and functional status of adult psychiatric patients across diverse populations. Familiarity with assessing patients, developing therapeutic group goals and interventions for adult/geriatric psychiatric patients. Leadership in program planning and implementation; model best practices for Activity Specialist I and Recreation Specialists. Pass CPR Certification and complete MANDT, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Compliance, and SCEIS modules. Work within a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Certification in the individual field of study. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language). Post‑Hire Requirements Pass CPR Certification. Maintain competence in MANDT and emergency care. Conduct therapeutic programs with minimal supervision.
