Title: Transportation Operations Technician I Department: Transportation Agency Location: Clarendon, VT, US Position Type: Permanent Schedule Type: Full Time Salary Range: $20.99 - $32.46 per hour Overview The Agency of Transportation seeks a Transportation Operations Technician I. The position performs various highway maintenance tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees and brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In winter months, the technician assists with plowing and salting. Overtime may be required. Responsibilities Perform highway maintenance tasks including guardrail repair, tree/brush cutting, road patching, litter pickup, ditching, and related duties. Assist witheplowing and salting during winter operations. Work outdoors in extreme weather and be available for scheduling changes. Operate tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance work and lift materials as needed. Participate in statutory random drug and alcohol testing before vehicle or equipment operation. Perform duties requiring consideration of hazardous materials, heavy equipment and traffic safety. Minimum Qualifications No education or experience required. Application requires applicant to be at least 18 years old. A valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Special Requirements Must live within reasonable proximity of the assigned workstation. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for successful completion of the original probation period. Complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled. Compensation and Benefits Sign‑on and retention bonus up to $2,000 for new CDL and non‑CDL holders hired into permanent maintenance or mechanic roles. Step 1 rate: $21.41 per hour; Step 15 rate: $33.11 per hour as of July 12, 2026.
