Source Inspector

GTI is seeking a Source Inspector to perform supplier-site inspections of outsourced fabricated products to verify compliance with GTI drawings, specifications, purchase order requirements, approved revisions, workmanship standards, and applicable ISO 9001 quality-management requirements.

The role serves as GTI's on-site quality representative at third-party manufacturing facilities. The Source Inspector identifies and documents nonconforming product before shipment, supports timely disposition and corrective action, and provides objective inspection evidence that protects GTI production schedules, product quality, and customer commitments.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection and Product Verification

• Perform in-process, final, and pre-shipment source inspections at supplier facilities.
• Verify part number, purchase order, quantity, drawing revision, specifications, and applicable quality clauses before inspection.
• Perform dimensional, visual, workmanship, surface-finish, assembly, and basic functional inspections as defined by the approved inspection plan or task notification.
• Use calibrated measuring and inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, indicators, tape measures, squares, and other approved tools.
• Confirm that supplier inspection records, material certifications, test results, and required traceability documents are complete and correspond to the product presented.
• Verify approved engineering changes, deviations, and controlled instructions have been correctly implemented.
• Clearly identify inspected and accepted product in accordance with GTI procedures; do not release product when requirements are not met or evidence is incomplete.

Nonconformance and Corrective Action

• Identify, segregate when practical, and document nonconforming or suspect product.
• Initiate or support Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) with clear defect descriptions, requirement references, quantities, measurements, and photographs.
• Immediately escalate conditions that may affect safety, fit, function, interchangeability, shipment timing, or GTI production.
• Support containment, sorting, reinspection, and verification of supplier corrections as directed by the SQE.
• Assist Supplier Quality Engineering with 8D, root cause corrective action (RCCA), and recurring-defect investigations.
• Verify completed corrections and approved corrective actions before release when assigned.

Supplier and Cross-Functional Support

• Communicate factual inspection results to suppliers, SQEs, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations.
• Support supplier capability reviews, process walk-throughs, readiness activities, new-product introductions, supplier transitions, and focused surveillance.
• Provide professional, objective feedback to suppliers without changing drawings, specifications, or acceptance criteria.
• Identify recurring workmanship or process-control concerns and provide data to the SQE for supplier development and risk mitigation.

Documentation and Records

• Complete the GTI source inspection report or Supplier Quality Form for every assigned inspection.
• Enter inspection results, defect data, release status, and supporting evidence into the designated ERP or quality system.
• Submit accurate reports and required attachments within 24 hours of completing the inspection.
• Maintain legible, traceable, and audit-ready records consistent with GTI document-control and ISO 9001 requirements.
• Protect GTI and supplier confidential information while working at supplier facilities.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in manufacturing quality, source inspection, receiving inspection, fabrication inspection, or supplier quality.
• Demonstrated experience inspecting fabricated products in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, tolerances, and inspection instructions.
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5, as applicable to GTI drawings.
• Experience using precision measurement and inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 principles, document control, control of nonconforming outputs, and objective inspection evidence.
• Experience documenting NCRs and supporting corrective-action activities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel and the ability to learn GTI ERP and quality systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
• Valid driver's license, required automobile insurance, and ability to travel to supplier locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA or advanced degree preferred• Experience with fabricated steel, sheet metal, weldments, electrical components, cooling systems, generators, or modular infrastructure categories• Experience with global sourcing regions including Mexico, Vietnam, Asia, or Europe.
• Experience in ERP systems, procurement analytics tools, or advanced Excel modeling
• APICS, CPSM, CPM, Lean Six Sigma, or related certifications preferred
• Experience supporting modular data centers, BESS, GenSet, or industrial infrastructure products
