Job Summary The Principal is a professional educator responsible for the supervision, management, and control of a school or schools. The role includes general supervision of all schools, staff, and student activities. Performance Responsibilities Implement the procedure for instructional placement of new enrollees. Follow mandated instructional time allocations. Support varied instructional strategies. Encourage the use of instructional technology. Encourage multiple procedures for evaluating student achievement. Evaluate instructional programs periodically and use results in planning. Implement a system to monitor student progress. Assist in supervising implementation of Programs of Study, Content Standards, and Objectives, as well as county and state policies. Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development. Assist in designing and implementing an effective scheduling procedure. Inform the community of existing instructional programs and activities. Work with faculty to plan and implement staff development programs. Upgrade professional skills annually. Curriculum Recommend alternatives or changes to curriculum to meet student needs. Assist in developing guidelines for scheduling students. Assume special project assignments. Manage the special education process. Cooperate with business and industry to establish and monitor programs of study. Cooperate with higher‑education institutions to support career cluster format. Participate in summer training, staff development, and job shadowing. Stay current with research and development in trends for education locally and nationally. Attend special training as needed. Administrative Operations and Facilities Management Work a flexible schedule (daily, yearly). Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal. Demonstrate good judgment and decision‑making. Interpret and implement board policy. Provide efficient organization of daily school operations. Prepare and implement short‑ and long‑range plans. Assist in maintaining discipline and design an effective discipline policy. Administer effective attendance procedures. Organize extracurricular activities. Communicate policies and procedures to students. Provide parents with regular student progress reports. Communicate regularly with school support organizations. Assist in supervising assignments/services provided in the school. Recognize student and staff contributions and accomplishments. Participate in developing continuing education programs based on school needs. Provide orientation and support for substitute teachers. Identify needs for facility improvements. Encourage maintenance of an attractive environment. Follow established evaluation procedures for all school staff. Use self‑appraisal to improve administrative skills. Complete assignments and reports. Supervise after‑hour school activities. Accept other duties as assigned. Qualifications Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A‑3‑2a and §18A‑2‑9. Master’s degree. Minimum of five years secondary experience. Appropriate administrative certificate. Physical Demands Frequent lifting and movement of at least 10 pounds. Regular reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, and see activities. Use of computers and multimedia equipment. Repetitive motions.
